Hypermotard lemon?

Hey guys-
I've owned a 09 1100 Evo for about 6 months now, have about 4300 miles on it. In that period, I've gotten 2 oil changes (600 and 3000 miles). When I took it in at 3000, they had to replace the ENGINE CASES...as in take the whole engine apart because of a component that didn't screw out of the engine casing when they changed the oil (the filter that picks out any metal bits). Currently, I was riding about a week ago and the shift level got stuck in the down position. With a good bit of effort using my left foot while riding, I pulled it back up into place and it was usable once again. A couple days later, same problem. So back in the shop the bike goes. The tech mentioned it might be a spring that pushes the lever back up, and of course to diagnose, they have to take the engine cover off again.

First time they took both covers off and put the bike back together....shop would have charged me $5,000 for the labor. That was covered by warranty, so I didn't have to pay. Now they have to dive back into the guts of the bike, but only taking off one side of the bike, and again covered by warranty. THANK GOD.

I'm very concerned as to what's going to happen once I reach past my warranty. Is this going to keep happening? There's no way I'm keeping the bike if problems like this keep up and I'm outside my warranty.

Could I get opinions of what you guys think....gremlin in the bike....don't keep it ....could be just a fluke.... what do you think?

Probably just a fluke, but I would buy an extended warranty.

Isn't the EVO a 2010 model?

Find a new dealer if they can't do an oil change without splitting the cases. Since it already had 2 oil changes, I wonder if they put a new kid/grease monkey on the job and he screwed up the hex head of the oil screen. It is in there pretty good as it has to be because if it backs out, it will block an oil galley possibly seizing ther engine. If the hex key isn't fully seated, it will strip the head. Not the bike's fault IMO.

Kinda what I was thinking. I'll double check on the warranty thing, I definitely won't be a fan of paying mad cash to fix the bike.

the shifter issue is a known problem with this bike and many others that share the engine and tranny configuration. They should've been fixed, but during assembly, the shifter mechanism wasn't installed at the correct angle.

I would bet that the tech didn't remove the allen bolt underneath the pan that holds the filter screen in and probably used an impact to get the screen out.

Dayum - 30,000 miles, several track days, 3 trips to Laguna Seca(from San Diego), commuting 5 days a week(36 mile round trip), major abuse, hard core mountain rides...not one issue... Not one.
