Bike starting on its own?!!

So here's a strange thing when I start my bike. The bike is cold, not started for a week or so, I switch the ignition on, switch the kill switch to on, press the starter and the bike turns over slowly as if there is no power, blip the throttle and then let go - hands completely off...AND the bike continues to try and start
It does eventually start on its own after maybe 10-15 seconds, is this a special Ducati feature or is my bike trying to help me get it started?

Mine does the same thing too when it is cold or like your case that it has not been started for a week or two. The starter keeps cranking until it starts. I twist the throtle a couple of times before starting it and it helps a little.

no need to turn the throttle ,the bikes are fuel injected not carbed, lol
when its cold it needs less fuel not more. its telling you it needs a tune up--ie new plugs/or tps reset or tb sync

My salesman told me about this the day I picked up the bike. This is a feature. From the Owner's Manual (that no one seems to read anymore):

This model is equipped with a servoignition system.
To achieve assisted engine starting, press the button and
release it immediately.
Pressing the button operates automatic engine starting
for a maximum period of time that varies depending on
engine temperature.
When the engine has started, the system prevents the
starter motor from turning over

I dont think the new siemens models have this feature. My dealer owns an 08 Hyper and I heard him mention missing this feature on the new Multi. Also on new units the TPS is relearned every time you start the bike so best to not be "blipin" the throttle

Check your plugs.. I started mine today just to let it warm up.. that and I move to a condo. 16 degrees outside.. snow/ice on the ground.. good thing we rented a truck with a lift gate on it.

I like to hit the start button and then adjust my visor with both hands while its cranking so people will know my bike is more cool than theirs.
