Brake Howl

I've got a 2008 1100s and although the brembo monoblocs are supposed to be powerful I have never been happy, the bike only has 500 miles on it as it is my summer fun bike, but the brakes howl when pulled hard and I dont feel they have the bite they should, do you think the pads are glazed, is there a fix for this or should I buy new pads? what about the noise it's not like a brake squeak, it's a real howl/drone, don't think it needs copper grease, maybe pads are shot, what do you think, thanks.

I have the standard brembos and they are very powerful. From what I've heard about the monos, they are very strong with only a finger or two. Some have crashed by locking the front wheel because they are so strong. I suspect that if you do a good brake bleed and change pads, you should have the power back.

As far as the howl, I ran track day pads on my street car. They dusted horribly and made some awful screaching. It eased things a bit by running some grease on the back of the pads. Many times the noise from squeaky brakes is the vibration of the pads inside the calipers. I don't know if the howl is caused by the same things or not.

to de glaze pads or when installing new pads always lightly sand them with 200 grit sand paper, the pads and rotors too! its for bedding in the pads with the rotor.
this comes straight from galfer when i use to be a dealer.

Sounds like the brakes were not bedded in properly. Either change the pads or try sanding them and then bed them in. I use only 2 fingers to brake and then very lightly.

Thanks for the replies, I think for sure the pads and discs need de-glazing, will have to get on to it, thanks again.

My S models brakes howl really badly as well.I have found that it's a lot better by unbolting the calipers (only takes a few seconds) removing the pads, and scrubbing the pistons and seals gently with a soft toothbrush over a bucket of soapy water.Same goes for the rotors and pads.I do this about every thousand kms.

+1 on the howl - seems to be only on serious decelleration, and only toward the tail end of that decel as well. It bays like a beagle in heat!

I'm super disappointed with the front end on my Hyper - from the non upgradeable forks (S model even) to the howl. Good thing the motor is amazing, and she's a looker, or she'd go...

You can't upgrade the front end? Then what did Thermosman put in my forks to make them so much better?
