Further update on mods to my hyper
Hi all,
Its been a while since I last posted on the upgrades to my hyper, but better late than never. Just to recap on the upgrades I was doing, below,
1/ Zard penta full system
2/ MWR full splitter plate replacement air filter, removing top half of airbox
3/ Full system ecu
4/ PCV + custom map to each cylinder ( by Paul @ Dyno bike centre Malton North Yorkshire).
5/ 14t front sprocket
6/ 1000ds multistrada footpegs rider only, removed rear footpegs and hangers
7/ Carbon tank cover,sprocket covers
8/ Reduction in hight of dp racing seat of 35mm to lower the overall high to ground,
9/ Full suspension setup by ( Gareth @ reactive suspension Strensall North Yorkshire).
I finally did all the above mods. The bike was base dynoed as standard before any engine mods and on the dyno jet dyno made 83rwhp & 66ft1b of torque with 15t std front sprocket
When I fitted engine mods above seat of the pants dyno said it was way stronger than std but Paul did a further base run which measured 90rwhp & 71ft1b of torque. Paul fitted the PCV and mapped each cylinder separately,
taking great care to get the best he could from the set up. He did many individual runs over the course of 4-5 hrs and even he was suprised to end up with 92.7rwhp and 76.9ft1bs of torque.
Please look at the dyno graphs attached. Paul seems to think the largest gains have come from the mwr filter set up which gives a great induction roar when the trottle is nailed, along with a fantastic growl from the zard penta system.
The next batch of planned upgrades are the following as I have got the modification bug which is a symptom of ducati fever easily caught when buying these bloody Italian bikes errrrgh
1/ lightweight subframe
2/ Slipper clutch
3/ lightened flywheel
4/ DP handguards
5/ DP flasher mirrors
6/ lightweight battery
7/ Head Porting job
8/ DP Cams
9/ Pistal h/com pistons
10/ Set squish
11/ Lightweight ergal cam pulleys
Will post further when bank account empty lol bye for now Luca

Further engine mods to hyper
Yes they seem to be the main power gains especially the filter setup.
I was thinking of pod filters but got a deal on the mwr with the full system.
I have been speaking to another member of this forum Chris from CRS Tuning, about the head porting. He seems very clued up on the 2valve moters.
He says that the fitting of DP cams and pistons really makes the head port job work well. Cant be sure yet if I will do these 3 mods but very tempted, as I think the hyper rocks. I suppose a larger oil cooler would be req for the extra heat build up with the extra power.
l told Chris I was concerned that whatever engine tuning l do l dont want to comprimise reliability. He advises that that would not be an issue.
Have any of you guys with these level of tunes on the 2v 1100 moter any coments on this potential setup??
Any comments gratfully recievied

there are a few of us on the forum with with hypers in high level of tune, although I believe 08hyper has gone furthest with his engine.
I bought mine from Ducshop as their "this is what we can do" demo and I love it. I have the 1123 big bore kit in addition to the regular stuff (dp cams/airbox remobal-velocity stacks w/ kn filter/2-1 full termi/PCIII etc etc) and the bike pulls hard and seamlessly from about 3k rpm to 8k. The power gain was from 85hp to 103hp (posted the dynochart elsewhere on this forum). When i ride a stock hyper it feels and sounds like a gutless sewing machine in comparison... no ballsy sound, no power, totally totally different engine. The one thing I have lost is some smoothness, mine seems to vibrate a bit more, but I actually enjoy it. I was following the pres. of our local club on his totally stock hyper while he was on mine, and I had the throttle pegged to the stop the whole time and he just was pulling away like it was a joke... I could see him accelerate at will with some left in reserve That made me very happy.
If you are looking at a comprehensive engine mod... I would contact ducshop as they are one of the top notch ducati engine specialists. mark there will help you out, and of course, if you buy stuff from them they offer the best support there is IMO.
Have fun modifying your hyper... just be aware that you will basically double the price of your bike by the time you're done.

Pcv
Hi Luca
I have a similar set up on my HM albeit I have the Ducshop velocity stacks/K&N pods rather than a replacement flat filter. The bike puts out 90rwhp and 69ftlb with db killers in (a bit more without). You have taken it to the next level by adding a PCV, which is something I am looking at - although I suspect it's well into the realms of 'reducing returns'...
It wouldn't take much for me to justify the outlay to myself by using your results. I like the sound of the custom mapping - and Malton's not too far from me (Derbyshire). I'm also considering the alternative of the Autotune.
I wouldn't be concerned re reliability issues as long as the work's done by a reputable company and if it's CJS Racing that you mean - based down in the South West - then Chris comes very highly recommended by the DesmoDue regulars on the Ducatisti forum

autotune
Hi Rob,
Your idea sounds good with the auto tune kit.
breifly touched on it with Paul at Dynobike. Cant remember exactly but I am sure he said you would need 2 auto tune modules to continue with the separate mapping effect of the 2 cylinders, may work out very £££.
Maybe someone on the forum can enlighten us if they have done this mod.
the PCV I think is defo worth the investment as its made the bike pull very clean and sorted the lumpiness at low speed through town etc. She pulls a higher gear from much lower in the revs now. Petrol consumption wise seems about the same bearing in mind the extra power still get around 95-105 to a tank unless very silly.
Good look with your plans sounds like you have the modding bug as well its catching on this forum.
Cheers a very soon to be skint hypermotard owner

Hi Luca,
Very interested in what your doing to your Hyper - I've spoken to Chris from CJS about similar mods to the ones you are thinking about I've had a set of DP cams & high compression pistons for about 2 years just never got round to getting the work done.
He seems to know his stuff on all things desmo? were you thinking about taking the heads & cylinders off yourself or are you going to get someone to do the work for you?
Don

I think the fun in modding is the evolution process but just for those of you who what to buy one ready to rock, the Duc Shop has an 08 that is set up to rock and roll big time. I've looked at the bike and it is flawless. I'm sure they ship 'cross the pond or ponds
Here's link to the mods: Featured Bike - 900SS Dual Plug Conversion with 966 kit Don't ask me why the link says 900SS Dual Plug etc., it's a direct copy from their web site
And no, I'm not getting a kick back, just one sweet bike, all set to go.

Hi Alexio,
Thanks for the info. Congratulations man that is an awsome spec you have on your bike. Guess I still have some work to do. You have definetly spured me on to carry on tinkering, and spending money. At least its nice to know that there are others out there that like to be different from the run of the mill buy, ride and swop for the latest and greatest. As this hyper is my first Ducati, its quite a change for me from the Jap 4s.
All the best Luca
