Anyone regret swaping out your flywheel?
I live in San Francisco and mentioned to my local Ducati Mechanic that I was going to swap out to a 848 lighter flywheel. He said I should not do it because it could cause issues for daily city riding. I asked if the new 2010 EVO's that come stock with the 848 lighter flywheel were having issues and he said that they were here in SF. He said that the had seen quite a few idling problems with these lighter flywheels. I find that very hard to believe, but wanted to see if anyone had some advice they could help give me.

My 748 has a light fly wheel and is fine. My nearly stock Hyper stalls every so often out here in Vegas. Too lean and altitude. IF your is good you should be GtoG.

Yes I'm having big problems with the lighter 848 flywheel on my 2010 EVO SP, it seems the front wheel keeps losing contact with the ground Seriously I've had no issues with idling. I prefer the feel of my 2010 Hyper EVO SP engine to my 2008 Hyper.
My 93 750ss has Nichol's lightweight flywheel no issues there either.

I installed a 9 oz Aluminum one, and the bike feels like it accelarates quicker. It is a great mod to do. The only little thing that I don't like is when the engine is cold and if it is shut down when is first started in the morning it doesn't like to start back up, because there is not enough inertia to turn the engine. A little bit of throtle increase can help when that happens. If the engine gives a running temp and it is shut off then there is no problem. I don't regret it at all, I like the difference.

DUCATI BILLET RACE FLYWHEEL FLY WHEEL 848 1098 1098S - eBay (item 230525811221 end time Dec-12-10 09:16:16 PST)
I was about to ask if a 9 OZ was to light for an HM ( it is ratede as a lighter 848 flywheel) and the stock 848 flywheel is already half th weight of my 08 4.19LBS.
If ts the one I'll orther it right now,and keep my stock one as a spare in case that i d'ont like it[

I am using a Ducshop turned down stock flywheel, (approx 2.2lbs) & a balanced lightened crankshaft with lightweight Carrillo race rods, (approx 1.5 lbs lighter) the bike starts & idles perfect, and the motor is now sooooo smooth, and revs very quickly now. One of my best mods. Aloha Alex

yeap, that is the one. It is a good idea to keep the stock one. I sold mine on the forum, but trust me you will not regret it. Let us know, how it works out for you.

I really like my Nichols flywheel. I have no stalling or idling problems, but I also have velocity stacks and the race ECU on my 2008. In slick conditions the tires light up easier and there is more noticeable engine braking so rev matching is more important then stock. A slipper clutch would be nice.
I don't think you will go back to a stock flywheel.
