Motowheels 999R Project

We finished this 2005 999R in early 2005. We had a 2003 999S project bike prior to this so we had a lot of donor parts that we had already test fitted.

The 999R does not get ridden as much now that the 1098 project is completed. It is a fun bike that is at least 70lbs lighter than original. It may be sold soon, so I thought I'd share some photos of this very unique bike before it is gone.

It has Ohlins Road and Track forks with SBK internals and MW Billet "Ohlins 108mm" Radial Lowers: 999/1098. The calipers are BREMBO "2 Pc. Radial" Billet Caliper: 108mm . The rotor is a BRAKETECH "AXIS" Iron Front Rotor: 4 Pad. Not pictured is the BREMBO "GP" Forged Radial Brake M/C: 19x18.

Braking is a two finger operation with plenty of feedback.

Hidden behind the Braketech rotor is a BST CF "Race" Front Wheel: 749/999,S4RS,D16. A TI Front Axle: 749/999 is hidden by the RHINOMOTO Front Axle Slider: Ducati/Aprilia.

Barely visible is the other titanium pieces:
NCR TI Front Rotor Hex Bolt Kit: Hex head
TI Fork Axle Pinch Bolts
TI Front Caliper Mounting Bolts: Radial
Titanium Bleed Nipple: 8mm Ducati

The BST wheels probably made the biggest difference on this bike-even thoughthe original forged aluminum wheels were very light.

On the rear is a MS Aluminum Braced Race Swingarm that we powder coated black. The OHLINS Rear Shock with the hydraulic preload and high and low speed compression damping replaces the OEM Ohlins rear shock.

We dropped more weight and "MOI" with a non-DOT BST CF "Race" Rear Wheel, DRIVEN "ALU" Rear Sprocket: BST/Marchesini, D.I.D. 520ERV3 Chain, AFAM Light Front Sprocket: Testastretta 15T-520and a smaller diameter disc in the DISCACCIATI Rear Brake Kit.

Barely visible is a TI Rear Axle that is matched up with TI Rear Axle Nut. We've replace all the original steel nuts and bolts with titanium: TI Lower Swingarm Pivot / Ride Height Bolt & Nut, TI Top Rocker/Suspension Pivot Bolt: 749/999, TI Rear Set Mount Kit: 749/999, NCR TI 12 pt. Sprocket Nuts: 748-998,MS,S4R.

The PITBULL Delrin Spool Kit: 6mm makes it much easier to lift the bike and also acts as a slider. We've installed a RHINOMOTO Rear Axle Slider (not pictured) for additional protection.

The adjustable ACCULIGN Billet Rear Set also has a delrin slider inserted into the end to take up impact and promote sliding. "Corse" CF Heel Guards from a 748-998are installed between the rear set and frame.

Hidden is the

SPEEDYMOTO Underbody Frame Slider that is protecting the water pump and battery on one side and the clutch and radiator on the other side.

We used a SURFLEX Slipper Clutch w/ Plates: Red. This slipper uses a endless screw design that does not require ball bearings and spider springs. There is virtually no maintenance. It is very quiet and does not pulsate back atthe lever as many ramp /bearing designs. The best part:The clutch pull is incredibly light.

The RCM Billet Clutch Cover "Open Air" keeps my foot of the clutch and protects the clutch assembly from lowside.

To lighten it up some more, we used:
TI Clutch Spring Bolts
NCR Titanium Clutch Cover Bolt Kit

We modified some CF Heel Guards: 748-998 "Corse" to fit the Acculign rear set.

The biggest change in the appearance is from the the CF "BURSI" Body Kit , the CF Fuel Tank and the "Desmosedici Style" CF Mono Tail . The Bursi body eliminated the side air deflectors. The tank eliminates the line on the top and adds about a gallon more fuel. The longer Desmo tail matches the longer Leo Vince Full 57/60 TI System perfectly.

The CF 'Bursi' Nose Fairing also features a lens cover for the headlights for improved aerodynamics and protection.

Note the exposed carbon fiber in the vents of the carbon nose, around the headlights and inthe pinstripe...

We experimented with a bunch of tails before we ended up with the "desmo tail".
Here are some pictures of the bike in "2 wheels Tuner" with the OEM style CF Mono Tail

We added LED brake lights to the tail so we can eliminate the OEM tailight/turnsignal assembly and added screens to the vents.

The OBERON "Bar End" Turn Signals went on the ends of the handlebars and now fire front and rear:

We mounted the CRG Blindsight Mirror on the bars so we can actually see what is sneaking up behind me with out doing the "chicken dance" with the arms.

The SPEEDYMOTO Top Triple Clamp provided 5/8 of rise but we wanted a little more so we added some 1.5" Bar Risers

<O</O

The OEM integrated reservoirs do not allow for much fairing clearance, so we replaced them with the BREMBO "GP" Forged Radial Brake M/C: 19x18 and remote reservors that we mounted onthe inside ends of the bars for extra clearance.

Barely visable is the CF Ignition Key Cover, titanium hardware, CF fuel cap and the CF Racing Air Intake Tubes

We installed a DP "Euro" Light/Starter Switch: Right hand for track day use and so we can run a smaller battery.

Did you custom mount the exhaust guard on the leo vince pipe? I saw two different guards in two different pictures. And can you still get the corse heel guards and do they fit over the leo vince Ti corse exhaust when fitted under the rear sets?

We tried several different heel guards and exhaust covers. Some just did not fit with the combination. We tried to get some custom guards made, but the base was uneven thickness and the finish had big waves in it.

The CF exhaust cover that we now have on the bike:
CF Exhaust Guard: 749/999

The CF Heel guards:
CF Heel Guards: 748-998 "Corse" We had to slot the mounting holes to fit it on the bike and use a the Corse Exhaust Cover Mounts since the holes were on the exhaust were slightly off. We also put a small spacer under the heel guards to push the heel guard away from the pipe.
