What do you need the mirror springs for?

There's a spring inside the mirror stalk that actually ties it to the fairing, and provides some compliance or a safe breakaway in case of some impact. After you or others have knocked the mirror off in the garage or a parking lot, the springs get either lost or stretched (my current problem from multiple events on the left one, which I suspect left the dealer/factory assembled wrong).

Now, if I could only figure out how to install without taking the whole upper fairing apart...

Remove panels around instruments.
Remove mirror base.
Assemble mirror from bottom (I used a wire clothes hanger).
Reinstall assemble mirror onto motorcyle.
Reinstall panels.

Don't even think about trying to assemble the mirror on the motorcycle.

This is a very timely post, as the cast piece on my right mirror has broken.
Thanks for giving me the clue about using a coat hanger to dissassemble the mirror assembly. worked like a charm. for dis and assembly.

I was able to use some 2 part epoxy to glue the pieces back together.

Again thanks for posting this topic.

Thanks for the info Mike, I wish I had known that the cover could be removed before I took the mirror to the painter.
