Installation of Servo Plate Kit

I stumbled across a simple and easy way to remove the exhaust valve cables without having to deal with the check engine light. Got this servo plate kit on eBay for $35 shipped (see below for link)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ducat...#ht_500wt_1182

and figured I would do a write-up on the install

1. Remove RH mid fairing to gain access to the exhaust servo.

2. Use an 8mm socket to remove the nut holding the cable pulley. The pulley should rotate counter-clockwise. If not, use a channel lock wrench and turn the pulley counter-clockwise SLOWLY.

3. Remove the rear cable by pulling down and to the rear of the bike so that it is no longer engaged.

4. Use a channel lock wrench to turn the pulley clockwise so that the front cable has enough slack to be removed. Make sure to match the tip of the pulley to the marked line on the plastic housing (see 3rd picture below).

5. Remove front cable and the cable pulley.

6. Locate the carbon fiber servo plate. See picture below for proper orientation. Not the angled center hole.

7. Install the carbon fiber servo plate onto the servo shaft.

8. Install the spacer.

9. Install the OEM nut.

10. Remove the exhaust guard to gain access to the cable pulley on the exhaust valve.

11. Remove both cables from the pulley.

12. Use an 8mm wrench and a 3mm Allen wrench to remove the rear cable mount.

13. To remove the front cable mount, first remove the bolt holding the exhaust to the frame. To do this, use an 8mm socket for the bolt and a 10mm wrench for the nut in the back.

14. Using an 8mm wrench, patiently remove the bolt, front cable mount and spacer.

15. Remove the entire cable assembly from the bike and you’re done.

Went out last night for quick ride, there is a noticable improvement and smoothness and no more stumble in the power delivery in the low to mid range rpm

I have purchased this and installed on 848. Good quality, works as expected, however I do get a CEL occasionally after starting the bike. Fixed by turning ignition off and on again.

My buddy who also has an 848 ran into this problem. He fixed it by adjusting valve motor's "zero point" using the ECU (see service manual). I think the magic number was 1.4 V instead of the recommended 1.7 V

oh well.. now the servo shaft has eaten away the sides of the hole in the carbon plate, so now the hole is perfectly round and motor spins freely throwing CEL all around... maybe CF is not strong enough for this and aluminium plate would be a better idea. Now I need to figure out what to do, disconnected the servo for now and riding with the CEL on.
