Post Rear Brake 900SS

I've owned a 2000 750 Monster and didn't like the set up on the rear brake position being low rather then high.
I would think High is better to keep dust and grit from laying in the caliper?
Most newer Models moved the caliper High on the rear .

What is better ?

I have a 1999 900SS and the brake is Low and was thinking about moving it High.

Is it all just for looks....
