check this out!: KLIM adventure riding suit with 3do

"a full complement of d3o armor is located in the back, shoulder, elbows hips and knees. d30 is a polymer whose molecules lock together on impact, turning it from soft, thin and malleable into something stiff, which can absorb and deflect impact energy. The big advance here is comfort. Hard, inflexible plastic armor can reduce limb articulation and chafe. With d3o, you won’t know you’re wearing it till you fall off and don’t get hurt."

pretty amazing stuff.. but then it should be for $2150

Love the concept but the price will keep me out of one.

That d3o armour has been used in snowboarding freestyle impact apparel for the last couple years. If you want to see the suit in action, and see what a real review of the jacket w/harness and pants check this out! Absolutely the most amazing ride report I have ever read, and Colebatch is wearing the Klim suit.
Enjoy.

"...d30 is a polymer whose molecules lock together on impact, turning it from soft, thin and malleable into something stiff, which can absorb and deflect impact energy...."

Is this before or after the bone underneath has snapped?

Interesting. Not sure about the reaction time (like stryder mentioned), or the effectiveness of it's energy absorbing properties, but it's definitely interesting stuff.

This is an interesting video as far as motorcycle applications go (I'll be hanging on to my CE hard armor).

Why didn't either of those guys just hit the d3o pad with a broad hammer? I mean the Armidilo guy even had one in his hand and he did everything but smack the armour pads with it. Put them, ie the CE and 3do pads beside each other, and hammer away. Easy.

The D3O armour might not be a thick as the CE rated stuff but it I believe it works just as well(regarding my snowboarding impact shorts). The major difference being that it conforms to the body when wearing it and acts solid when the force acting on it is faster than what the molecules in the armour can react to.... Think of it like a delayed reaction instead of an armour that gets soft or hard.

Like this video, the molecules of water are slowed because of the cornstarch. Now the consistency never changes, what changes are the forces on the fluid which causes different reactions.
