Warm underwear?

For the cold months i am looking for something warm to wear under my clothes. My leather jacket is vented, so its not all that warm.
Is there like modern day long johns?

Long underwear will help but you need a windstopper fabric like this for a middle layer:

DAINESE 'Top Map' Windstopper Fleece Top

I wear this with perforated leathers on cold days and under Goretex jackets on very cold days.

I have some Under Armour cold gear...works pretty good under my leathers and it is good quality (does not snag or ball up at the high wear/contact points). It is kinda up there in price...but you get what you pay for and I have used it for 2 years (I also use it a few times a week when running outside in the cold....so it has taken a beating.)

THE BEST stuff I found is HELLY HANSEN...
People who work on the offshore drilling rigs use it ...
And Fishermen also..
You can be sweating and still be warm..
Idea is not to sweat tho..
You need layers and the layer next to the skin should have a wicking ability...
And you need to be wind proof on the outer layer

HELLY HANSEN.COM check them out...You will be warm..

In Australia we don't get the same extent of snow as many other places, and therefore no curtailed riding season. We can ride all year round, even middle of winter.

However, it does get plenty cold enough here, and most experienced riders go with the following thermal underwear for year round riding.

For those who prefer natural fibres - Woolarina
Finest Australian Merino wool.
Welcome to Woolerina - 100% Australian Merino Wool | Lightweight Wool Clothing | Durable, Breathable Wool Clothing for Men, Women and Children

For those who prefer synthetic -
Damart - Fashion and thermal wear

I've got products from both of the above, and both get my high recommendation.

The synthetic is slightly warmer for the same amount of bulk.
The wool is slightly more comfortable.
The synthetic wicks more moisture away from the skin, and washes and dries faster.

I experience a few static shocks when wearing the synthetic garments. Take them off and my body hairs stand on end.

I've ridden 400 klms in perfect comfort at -3 to -10 degrees celsius, with the following clothing items -

Feet - Damart long socks under a pair of DriRider boots

Bottom half - Damart Grade 5 Double Force Longjohns, a pair of kevlar jeans, and a pair of waterproof pants to keep out the wind chill.

Top half - Woolarina longsleeve thermals, longsleeve/high neck cotton riding shirt, Sleeveless polar fleece vest, Rivet Monaro riding coat

Head - Damart balaclava

Neck - RJays Polar fleece neck warmer

Hands - BMW silk undergloves + DriRider Hurricane gloves

Heated handgrips.

I personally love the Forcefield base layer products. Maybe a Knox or Rukka wind stopper shirt over it if need be, and depending on the temp and jacket I might have on. Not inexpensive but they seem to wick and work as needed.

warm . . .

Have you considered an electric vest, gloves, or heated grips? Being warm is smart because it lets you focus on your riding. Shivering or being cold affects your brain and your body's reaction times in a bad way.

Be smart - get heated gear!

Cold months in FL, what are we talking about, in the 50's? How long are the rides - 1, 3, 6 hours or multi day?

Avoid cotton for your base layers and spend extra $ on your mid-layers to avoid the loft.

I love this stuff but it is pricey:
Mountain Hardwear | Men's Baselayer, Thermal, Wool Base Layer Clothing

Mid Layer/Sweaters / Men's / Arc'teryx

Mountain Hardwear | Krakadon Jacket Many snowboard/ski shells are designed now for the hoods to go under the helmet and the high collar is nice for added wind protection, over a neck gaiter or Balaclava.

In general, the biggest issue is the wind and how active you are on the bike. Ripping it up on a dirt bike or stationary cruising on interstates makes a big deal for body heat generation and moisture management.

Buying a good set of gore-tex rain gear and low-loft, Windstopper mid-layer gear is an excellent investment as I find many uses for them besides motorcycling.

If your rides are long, then heated gear is the way to go and combine it with wind protection and base layering. The hardest parts to keep warm are the feet and hands, especially the hands.

I don't have heated grips and I find it hard to find a compromise between warmth and bulk. OR makes some really, really nice gear for hands. So, I wear a windstopper liner, Outdoor Research W's BackStop Gloves? and then I put on my shells. I can't find mine, but these are similiar Outdoor Research M's Arete Gloves?

Get some military polypros. I wear a pair under my jeans with a windproof rain suit pants over my jeans. You can get them from other sites but here is an example.

Polypropylene Thermals - Cold weather underwear - Military PolyPropylene
