Gloves - Welding

I've been looking at the Riding gloves since I got my new Strada 1100S and this is my observation.

I think I'll stay with my insulated welders gloves. The Riding gloves sure look really pretty but all of them required "effort" to get on and off. I ride with a leather coat (Bombers Jacket) and need/want gauntlet style to keep air out of the sleeves/arms. The riding gloves have few styles with gauntlet style and take time to get on and over the sleeves, never mind the pull straps.

The welders gloves go on and off in an instant. Protect my hands from a bone chilling 45deg ride to work (hey, its So. Cal 45 IS cold!) up through 100deg (hey, its So. Cal it gets 80 - 100 all 6 months of summer). My hands are never cold or hot.

I've been cought in the rain and wind and the gloves still protected my hands.

I know your thinking accidents - well they worked well there also. I've been down 4 times and don't have a scratch on my hands (but did have to have my thumb re-aligned with some pins and such - as well as a wrist re-alignment with pins and such (diff. accident)).

Did I mention they cost from $4 to $20 not $50 to $500. Major difference in my pocket book and you can get them in WHITE, BLACK, RUST (color limited of course) and even Pigskin for that extra feel.

Try a pair - you'll like it!

If not your out $6

Welding gloves, really? They are thick and clumsy. I'm sure there is a better alternative glove for you out there.

I would never use them. That said, welding gloves come in all sorts of materials and thickess. I have not used the 'heavy and clumsy' kinds since I first started welding almost 25 years ago. My normal riding gloves are more heavily padded than any welding glove I've used in the last 15 years.

And they will come off in a heartbeat if you hit the pavement at speed. That's why motorcycle gloves are made with those little wrist closures. Wonder why Moto GP racers don't wear welding gloves? I don't.

Too each their own, but a single stitched welder glove without a wrist and cuff strap and no armor is asking for mangled hands IMO.

One thing aside from helmets that you can't skimp on is gloves. The first thing you put out in a fall are your hands.
