Dainese D-Air Street... NOW can I ride a bike mommy?

Working in the medical field, I get chastised almost daily about my motorcycle riding habits from all the drs I work with, and am confronted with pretty ghastly injuries from wrecks on a weekly basis. It definitely takes a toll on my psyche every time I go riding... images of severed limbs, grown men screaming like babies, able-bodied dudes turning into dribbling gimps just run through my head when I turn on the engine before a run in the mountains or at the track... it's enough to make me quit sometimes.

So, it is in this context that I wonder how much the new Dainese D-Air Street airbag will change things. I need something to give me that false comfort again, that maybe with the right equipment coming onto the market, riding our beloved motorcycles can bring us (almost) into the realm of safety of being inside a cage.... thoughts?

Dainese - D-air - D-air street

It will take couple more years to get in everyone's jackets.
The D Air will start its journey next spring in a 1 piece suit with a 2.700€ price tag and later in 2012 in regular jacket for a price rumored to be over 900€.

Looking forward buying such a product though.

It has actually been in the works for a few years now but the whole thing is getting it cheap enough for the mainstream to purchase it. Most people would pass out from looking to pay for those prices now but it could save your life. A lot of the riders I talk to think it's crazy when you spend 500+ on a helmet or jacket so to tell them hey get this piece for over a grand they would rather take their chances.

I want a d-air suit.

A friend of mine was killed a couple days ago.

Motorcycling is looking like a stupid idea at the moment.

sorry to hear about your friend... yes, motorcycling is possibly the most stupid sport there is... we just conveniently forget as much as possible.

i spoke to someone at the d-store in sf about the street air jacket a few weeks ago. will not debut until 2012 at the earliest. also no word on if it will be reverse compatible with older jackets, or will require the purchase of a new one.

either way, i cannot wait. im in the med professional as well and would pay big bucks for this technology right now.
