Oh, SNAP!

Maybe Nicky will be waving the flag on a Duc during his victory lap???

If not, I say Duc should sign Benny Solis Jr. as a wild card!!!

OK, maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit...

That would be a cool event. I'm sure the numbers attending would increase over this year's lower numbers.

'09 Seca

I had such a great time at the races this year I am seriously considering a second trip. I am contemplating one of those suites. Looks like a great deal. I'd get to pretend to be a high roller like some of you guys!!!

Great. Another excuse for the locals to soak even more money out of us. Every hotel we've called so far has told us that by having the GP on the weekend of the 4th, they'll be raising their rates even more than they would for a non-4th of July MotoGP! Wonderful!

If they continue to raise prices, even as attendance dwindles, they'll eventually run the GP out of town. I've been attending races at Laguna for 25 years straight, but I'm sick of the fleecing. If they end up cutting off their own noses, I'll miss the races, but I won't miss the money pit that is Monterey...

Us locals discussed this during a group ride break and it seems the concensus is against the dates scheduled. Monterey is already a destination spot for non motorcycle people over the 4th (as is many other places in the USA). Add to that our contingent and you have a bloated cow looking for a place to lie down. I can't imagine the supply and demand will be even more stressed, leading to higher prices and perhaps difficulty finding accomodations.

Our group thought it was a bad idea and would like to know why they (organizers) did this. Accomodations aren't a problem with me since I can stay with family in the Santa Cruz area. However, the increased hassle and likely increased costs makes me think about just sitting at home next year. As a matter of fact, thats exactly what I'm going to do.

That blows for me. I was finally planning on making my way to Laguna next summer, but it's pretty unlikely that I'll be able to get the weekend off from work over the holiday.

I've been camping in the same spot for 20 years. In the 20 years that my family has camped there, the rate has jumped 100 bucks. I ride up with buddies, my wife and my sister in law drive the RV up. We pack all our own food and beer. I ain't complainin' one bit. It's all in your perspective. In my opinion, this party's been raging for 20 years, and it just get's sweeter... CAMP!!!

Thumbs down

I think the date is terrible! As others have said it conflicts with the normal 4th crowds and will only result in more traffic not only locally but everywhere. I think it will result in decrease in attendance since this is a holiday that many families have long standing get togethers. There are four of us who have attended all of the GP's and planned on attending for the forseeable future. With the change in dates it is doubtful we will go next year. We always stayed at one of the members family vacation home in Carmel Valley. His family always has a 4th gathering so he won't be able to go. So no lodging and probably won't hassle with trying to find a place to stay let alone deal with the high prices. Can't believe there won't be many more prople with the same conflict. Dumb decision.
