2012 MotoGP Sepang Test Results
2012 Sepang MotoGP test times as of 1pm on Tuesday:
A damp track caused by overnight rain meant that although the track opened at 10am, all bikes remained in the pits until 11:15am.
Note that some of the times listed for Ducati riders were actually shakedown laps, on their bikes, completed by factory test rider Franco Battaini.
However, Valentino Rossi has made his debut on the all-new (and all-black) Desmosedici GP12, with which he moved to the top of the timesheets at 1pm.
All twelve manufacturer riders are present for the three-day test, plus the Forward Racing and BQR 'Claiming Rule Team' teams.
1. Valentino Rossi ITA Ducati Team 2m 2.905s (12 laps)
2. Ben Spies USA Yamaha Factory Racing 2m 2.930s (10)
3. Jorge Lorenzo ESP Yamaha Factory Racing 2m 3.044s (7)
4. Alvaro Bautista ESP San Carlo Honda Gresini 2m 4.110s (7)
5. Katsuyuki Nakasuga JPN Yamaha Test Rider 2m 4.577s (6)
6. Dani Pedrosa ESP Repsol Honda 2m 4.971s (11)
7. Casey Stoner AUS Repsol Honda 2m 7.163s (2)
8. Andrea Dovizioso ITA Monster Yamaha Tech 3 2m 8.375s (4)
9. Cal Crutchlow GBR Monster Yamaha Tech 3 2m 10.993s (1)
10. Ivan Silva ESP BQR (FTR-Kawasaki CRT) 2m 11.280s (10)
11. Nicky Hayden USA Ducati Team 2m 11.759s (3)
12. Stefan Bradl GER LCR Honda 2m 11.887s (1)
13. Karel Abraham CZE Cardion AB Motoracing 2m 15.563s (1)
14. Jordi Torres ESP BQR (FTR-Kawasaki CRT) 2m 16.565s (5)
15. Hector Barbera ESP Pramac Racing 2m 17.372s (1)
Rossi's finished on top after the first session! Wow, that's fantastic! He's really gonna kick some ass this year! Unbelievable! I'm positively thrilled!

Although he finished 2nd on the 2pm time sheets, he's still a couple seconds off the race pace. Glad to see it too, but I think it's too soon to get excited.

Yeah, you're right, I just noticed the Vale's pole and Casey's test time. He slipped to 4th in the 3pm time. I hope he improves. I suspect they're not pushing it to the extreme limits on the first day.....are they?
And how is it being ran...there are no sessions just an open track all day yeah?

The is looking very good for a totally new bike. I expected him to be nearer to 2 full seconds off the fastest. I think Rossi must feel better on it than Nicky. Poor Nicky. 1.5 seconds off the pace seem to be the story of his life no matter what he rides.

Nicky might still not be 100% due to the wrist injury he suffered at the end of last season, I think the move to the 1000 will help his chances to do well. I think if they removed all the electronics from the bikes he would podium a lot more frequently, that is unlikely to happen, admittedly.
