Just typed a bunch of intellectual bullshit, then deleted it after reading. My gut tells me that I fear for the loss of excitement in the next few years of premier class racing due to bureaucratic tinkering with rules to make things more affordable.
I'm all for seeing a contest of rider vs rider, I just don't have confidence that this will happen by modifying technical rules in the ways Dorna are proposing.
I hope I'm wrong.

Somehow I just see this as another way to make it more boring.
Like gov't telling people to not use hair dryers in the tub.
Let things settle themselves.
I hate to say it, but I see GP getting more boring before it gets back to its former days of attention....

If they take away much more frredom of design the three main players will pull out anyway.
Dorna are going in the wrong direction.

^Agree with all above.
Can a common ECU work for Inline fours & V fours, is it fair for Ducati ?

I don't think the ECU thing will affect much - it just fixes a handful of the hundreds of variables the rider/team deals with to fixed values. Even if they really do lock it down quite a bit (i.e. fixed rev limit). Obviously they wouldn't go to the extent of fixing fuelling and ignition maps! You'd think...!
But then, I don't see a common ECU reducing cost. The real cost reductions would come from banning things such as wheely control, traction control and so on (or reducing the complexity of these systems somehow). If they really wanted to save money, have a look at hospitality and maybe set a limit on how many staff are travelling to each race??

First F1 banned TC (and few other electronic aids) then introduced 18K rev-limit, currently they have a common ECU made by McLaren, still it cost a billion dollars to fire up the car for one lap, all new teams are still sucking wind, upfront it's a parade of Red Bulls followed by McLaren.
I still watch F1 and MotoGP however it's getting boring. Got to say NAPCAR sometimes puts on a good show, however it's still better Fast-Forwarded on DVR, where in F1 I watch every lap, mainly because of commentary.
MotoGP race only lasts 45 minutes, I can barely stand the dumb ass commentary provided by local hosts when they cut in to world broadcast.

to me... less about cost... more about the boys that are suppose to be running the show taking power away from the factory's..
Not being said, but i feel that in the end.. that is the goal of the guys running the show.
Good for racing?... honestly? I'm a big fan of Doohan , but that was the most boring 5 years of Grand Prix in the last 30 years... and it seems like Honda and Stoner are about to give us some Deja Vu...
I just wanna see that stupid one tire manufacturer go away... open the tire wars back up again...

^ agree
I would like to see the factory teams be able to select the tyres of their choice at each track & not be locked into one brand.
So in reality they could run a Michelin front with a Pirelli rear & then at the next track they might run a a different combo to suit the race track surface for instance.
Tyre companies would be busting their arses to supply winning tyres to winners. They would also be learning a hell of lot about their competitors product & what they had to do to improve their product.
Win win really
Discuss?
