Interesting article... It used to be that you needed a great rider with good engineering... now it seems that even with a great rider, without great engineering, you probably wont succeed. The day of the geek as apparently arrived!

How do you explain Stoner's Ducati wins in 2009, and 2010 all with that crap carbon frame???

The issue at Ducati isn't the chassis; they changed it four times and the result was always the same. The problem is the tires." Carlos Checa
I really don't like the fact that words like tires become links that's cheesey!

Stoner was willing to ride with an attitude of 'win it or bin it'. He'd go hell-bent-for-leather until the front would let go. If it didn't he'd podium or win, but look how often he crashed while leading races in '09 and '10.
Rossi is no longer at the point in his career where he cares to ride beyond the bike's limits just to be competitive. With maturity comes wisdom, including a desire for self-preservation. He's got nothing to prove.

Yeh your right Stoner had all kinds of problems with his tires. Too bad I didn't see many Ducati riders do this all year. I guess Stoner knew how to ride around that tire problem sometimes.

Killjoy!
"Rossi admitted that the biggest mistake he and his crew made was to badly misjudge his Marlboro Ducati predecessor Casey Stoner.
A lot of people thought the Ducati was fast because Casey was in front when he crashed, maybe for some stupid mistake. So people always thought Stoner was the problem. But it is not true. The problem is the bike. It is very difficult to ride, and Stoner is very fast."
Some of us 'smarter cookies' knew this years ago.
At least when Stoner used to bin the Duc' he was usually leading, not pushing for 5th place.
Great pic' mduc!
