So we can FINALLY put that pesky rumour away...
Bayliss Gives 21 to Hopkins
by staff
Monday, November 28, 2011
Three-time World Superbike champion Troy Bayliss gave American John Hopkins an early Christmas present, relinquishing number 21 to Hopkins for the 2012 WSBK season.
Bayliss retired after winning his third World Superbike title in 2008, taking No. 21 with him. He revealed on Twitter that he kept 21 only in case of a comeback, which isn't happening.
"I am happy @JHopper21 will run 21 in WSBK," Bayliss tweeted. "I only kept it aside in case of comeback. Now I can really forget it."
Hopkins, who will race for Crescent Suzuki in WSBK, has used number 21 in MotoGP, AMA and British Superbike competition.
Ironically, Bayliss was forced to use No. 12 for his debut MotoGP season with Ducati in 2003 because Hopkins was riding No. 21 for Suzuki. Hopkins tried unsuccessfully to get No. 21 from Bayliss for WSBK rides with Stiggy Honda in 2009 and for his Crescent Suzuki wild-card ride this year at Silverstone.
So now there is peace in Numberville.
Thanks to Superbike Planet...

It would have been awesome to see what Troy could have done with the 1199..... especially with his development time.... but it's not like hasn't proven himself many times over....
