Bathurst 1000
Speed will be broadcasting the race live here in US, makes me wonder why?
I love Supercars but surprised SPEED is showing them Live at prime-time instead of reruns at 3am, perhaps they finally figured out that not everyone (especially north) wants to see NAPCAR 24/7?

Yes it is surprising to see this race live. I have been to 3 Super V8 races down under and I feel they are way better than Crapcar. At least every race is on a proper road circuit and not going round in circles all day. Another surprise is Darrell Waltrip is commentating the Bathurst race for speed. What the hell does Darrell Waltrip know about Australian Super V8's he's never even sat in one??? At least give that job to Marcos Ambrose who won 2 Super V8 championships, and knows a world more about those cars than Kentucky chicken head Waltrip.

Waltrip is networking and trying to build the next phase of his career as a TV personality. He was at Lemans this year in a Ferrari wearing his Napa Autoparts race suit, and everytime he got out of the car they rushed a mic to him to get the play by play. He had by far the most airtime of any race driver there. It was almost like he was their "in car commentator".
Honestly I'd rather here him than Greg Cramer.

Sorry no, Michael Waltrip was at LeMans this past year. 60+ year old Darrell Waltrip is totally retired from racing. Neither of them have ever sat in a Australian Super V8 car. Nor have either of them seen or been to Mount Panorama. I would prefer Marcos Ambrose. He is a two time Super V8 Champion and has more laps around that place than any American thats for sure. He is perfect since he's been there done that and he can appeal to the Crapcar viewers since he is racing in that series. He is perfect for the job. Why Darrell Waltrip is beyond the beyond. Might as well hire Arnold Palmer. I would like him better.

It really doesn't matter. I will watch that race no matter what. It's the biggest race in the southern hemisphere for sure. It's the Indy 500 and Daytona 500 all wrapped in one Aussie style on a real proper road coarse which has amazing elevation changes. It really is a great track. Can't wait to finally watch it live and not on a dvd.

I like them all but Bathurst is my favorite Supercar race, track is amazing, that hill must be magic.
Supercars seems like a great formula, especially the multiple race format, like SBK, gives fans a reason to buy a weekend pass. NAPCAR only gives them reason to drink more beer waiting for something to happen all day.
Why DW is doing the commentary? Simple, Merican viewers can identify with him and he can translate it in to their (redneck) language. Bet cash money he will say "Boogity! Boogity! Boogity! Let's go racing boys!" at the drop of the green. He will also talk nonsense trying to sound like he knows shit and no one from the regular NASCAR audience will notice since they don't know shit about V8's
I think another reason they picked up the race live is the fact that Ford is racing, it's a US company and they will pay the bill if it makes them look better for the US consumer, wonder if they will mention Holden-GM ties?
Will see when the broadcast starts, "Brought to you LIVE by: ...." that should answer my original question
