How bad is it? Checa (SBK) beats Rossi (motogp) around Silverstone!
Checa con la Ducati 1198 pił veloce di Rossi con la Desmosedici GP11
Checa with his Althea Ducati 1198 does a 2'05.103 while Rossi on his Desmosedici GP11 did a 2'05.781 at the same track last month. what's even the point anymore?

Are you sure it's the same course configuration? Even so, it is pretty impressive how well Checa is riding that bike this year

Same config and during qualifying the track was dry. Wet times on that track would be 10+ seconds slower, not a few tenths.
One big difference is, WSBK uses qualifying tires and MotoGP does not. So yes, WSBK is usually right on par with MotoGP in qualifying trim, but during the race, drops off about 1.5 seconds.
But I attribute that to the simple fact the tires are very different.

^yeah but the bridgestones have got to be grippier than the race trim pirellis.
ps, one bike has a real frame, and is lauded as the best handling bike in the sbk paddock, the other doesn't have a frame and is the worst handling bike in the gp paddock... hmmm

Nope, I don't think so. The bridgestones are shit, nobody likes them since they've gone to a single tire rule. The Pirelli's are a much sticker tire as they are a softer carcass, a hot lap on the WSBK tire retains much more grip.
If the MotoGP guys used the Pirelli's, A) they would wear out more and B) they would have way less crashing because the tire requires much less heat to stick.

In another thread, I did the research and Checa vs Casey stoner at Phillip Island, they did roughly the same qualifying time.

Lets not forget, part of the 1.5 second difference in WSBK vs MotoGP is also down to the fact that MotoGP has the best talent...

1 John Hopkins Team Suzuki Suzuki GSX-R1000 2:04.041
2 Eugene Laverty Yamaha World Yamaha YZF R1 2:04.068
3 Leon Camier Aprilia Aprilia RSV4 Factory 2:04.303
4 Carlos Checa Althea Racing Ducati 1098R 2:04.362
5 Sylvain Guintoli Team Effenbert - Ducati 1098R 2:04.456
6 Marco Melandri Yamaha World Yamaha YZF R1 2:05.456
7 Michel Fabrizio Team Suzuki Suzuki GSX-R1000 2:05.639
These were superpole times, all 7 went faster. Ouch, and 2 Ducati in top 5.

might have something to do also with the fact MOTOGP runs carbon disks. Would love to see how different lap times would be if they did not is carbon brakes. But that will never happen as Dorna have it.
Rossi is kind of eating his words , did he not last year make some comment re suberbike being a lower class of racing

It is...but the racing itself is FARRRRRR better with more competitive manufacturers and privateers competing against factories. How much time would carbon disks knock off a sbk's time? I've read thats the biggest shock to a sbk rider after throwing a leg over a GP bike for the first time.
