Is motorcycle racing becoming..
....bland?
I'm just curious on what ya'll think the 'state' of racing is today. Now, I don't have alot of time to keep up with every little aspect of todays racing whether it be GP, WSBK, BSK, AMA, what have you. My time is spent working, raising kids, riding, and beer drinking. So, I don't get to watch EVERY race that happens to be on.
BUT....
when I do get to watch, it seems to be the same ol list of two-five guys, who are always up there doing the same ol routine that we see week after week. I don't know about ya'll, but I'd OCCASIONALLY...like to see someone that normally runs 13th make a mad ass dash for first place. THAT would be exciting.
It's just so damned frustrating at times watching the same shit over and over.
Anyone else feel that way?

Yep. To quote Mick Doohan: "Racing is boring as shit right now".
Mick was only about 18 years ahead of his time with that quote.

I believe I watched the Daytona Series of bikes, Jason DiSalvo rides a Ducati.... It was on the other night and they were racing at Mid-Ohio I believe. It was pretty cool to see a 848evo race the other bikes, and it was exciting because there were some many bikes, I believe 20-something. As far as GP, and WSBK, yep.... SNORE!

If you don't feel that way, check your pulse
Seems like each year racing takes more money. You can't expect some privateer to get on podium with the equipment they have. Those guys hang in there hoping to impress and move up the chain.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a co-op, made up of, oh I dunno, a large group ( 60K strong) of racing fans; each contributing a measly $20 a year to sponsor a grass roots rider? That's $1.2M clams. Enough to get a relative unknown with talent the opportunity to beat the big guys in WSBK.
Caveat: He'd have to do it commando style. No, not nude, but rather naked of any sponsorship stickers/graphics and no thanking anyone but his 60K fans. It would be cool to see someone like that steal the show and give the big guys a run for their money.

AMA- Great racing / poor presentation/ no stars / poor commentary
WSBK- Large grid/fun to watch/ Poor feed quality takes away from the viewing pleasure (except Miller round) Usually the same top guys every round with a Eugene Laverty or Johnny Rea victory thrown in the mix.
BSBK - Awesome commentary/Great racing/ some bigger names (former wsbk) and then there's Hopper doing well in the series and Jake Zemke (limited access to series)
Moto GP- best atmostphere/great presentation/boring racing/too much politics/

I can't imagine the amount of cash dedication LUCK etc involved ...
To run with the big dogs and have a team of specialists looking after aspect of the bike Suspension Gurus ,Clutch Gurus ,computer Wizards ...
Spare parts spare bikes , everything involved...
I am Just glad I can watch an occasional race every now and then ,
Imagine following you favorite team around the globe , what that would set you back..
True the poor quality of feed the marble mouthed announcer DrawLLING on thru the race and missing the action happenning...
It (HERE GOES) needs to be Nascaralized a bit... Let the regular people know about the ins and outs of the different bikes and get to know the personalities of the riders..
Give the riders ENGLISH lessons , so we can understand them, not rrying to be an ass here , but I just am and making a statement , to further the Sport along ...
If they marketed it with some shows about the different makes and what makes them different , lift the hood and lets see what makes them tick...
It is somewhat expensive to get to a Major event and ther is only so much ENTERTAINMENT MONEY for people to spend ... So much other Competition out there for the motorcycle racing industry to get a foot hold with the fan base..
I think people will have to be able to get near and dear ,up close and personal , with the STARS and make the Machines accessable to the moms and girlfriends and the kids to get them interested or at least go to a Race and Tollerate Dad's or BFs Day off and go with him , make the day enjoyable , Might be a circus or carnival event , but you got to get the people interested and make it fun for them ,
In North America anyway.
If there were a Major event in Canada The gov't would gouge the event with 13% taxes and overpriced drinking water and $5 hot dogs...
EVERYBODY knows a Nascar driver if they see his picture maybe not his name but they know he drives a race car for a household sponser ...

You mean everybody who's a NASCAR fan, which in the scheme of things ain't that many people.
AMA racing is a joke. In fact, can you call it AMA racing when the AMA isn't really involved?
MotoGP is too expensive and as a result has too few teams. Looks like they will be converting both the 125 and MotoGP to spec racing like the 250, sorry, 600 class is now. Should make for closer racing, but it also just turns it into a non-event for me. Who the hell really cares about a bunch of honda motored bikes racing each other.
WSB and BSB seem to have it going on at the moment.

So what is the Magic Formula, to get some good Motorcycle racing where one -five riders , can not pull away from the pack and dominate the series?
Sorry for mentioning Nascar , but they have the TV coverage with on air time...
Are the machines not that equal are the riders just that much better on a particular machine at a particular track?
Should they all be using the same tires?
Should a pole sitter have the advantage right from the start? should the 6th place starter have his finish line be where he started in the race (same length as the pole sitter)
Racing Luck should be involved ...
the penalities are sometimes too severe??? (Question)for the slight infraction???
Such great riding talent should be showcased better..
Now to figure out How..
Again sorry about Nascar...
Kentucky Derby is an EVENT . all sorts of people watch it , those who have NO or Little knowledge of the sport ...
Maybe we should start gambling on Motorcycle racing??
The sport needs an angle..
I really don't Know , as you can tell...
