The bike IS good....but clearly down on power compared to the Yamaha and the Priller. Checa's absolutely riding the wheels off that thing. I think he's doing WAY more with what he's got than any other rider in the series.

I think the reason the duc is doing well is because they have a talented rider, who knows how to make the bike work for him. Not to mention the support of a good team behind him.

I think that is what happened to Haga in 2010 with Tardozzi leaving for BMW, the team had issues all season that they could not work out and it showed.

The team working well all season is a major key in being competitive come race day.

I definitely agree that Checa is riding amazingly well this year, but I think some credit does have to be given to the bike. Smrz and Guintoli have been doing pretty well this year on their non-factory (hehe) bikes. After a little research I found that of the sixteen races so far this year there has only been one race where either Srmz or Guintoli did not finish in the top eleven. Pretty good for a privateer team (ignoring Checa's performance last year).

That and they have a lot of test data on the bike this year as they ran the same one last year (not too different from the 1098 either). If Checa sticks with Ducati's (which I'm sure he will) he'll probably have issues with the "Superquadratestadesmo119xtheruther" for at least the first year. New setup data for sure as well as electrical issues.

If the "new bike" is a complete rethink as we're being led to believe, look at the issues BMW and Kawi have been having in all forms of racing the past year.

Checas getting long in the tooth though, think he'll retire if we wins the championship?
