I hope that KTM decides to come back for a full season. 7th place with only two test days on a bike is quite the achievement.

.....It is quite a start !!!....w/o any fork springs to change, forks bottoming out all over the place.....basically a stock KTM....IIRC Fillmore and KTM did a one off on a Super Duke at a SunTrust series at RA a few years ago, he absolutely beat Polen on an 848 like a rented mule....so here's Fillmore on a SD, bikini fairing, standard bars, etc.....went by Polen in a corner like he was standing still....which made me wonder back then....why do superbikes need such radical ergos.....anyway....fast forward to Mid Ohio....Fillmore annouced that KTM will be 2 more "test" races after Mid Ohio, VIR and NJMP...now the new Buell is ready and on the track...great logo Eric, very sharp!.....what a shot in the arm this is for such a woeful series. Hopefully FBF will sponsor the new 2012 Ducati Superquadrata in AMA superbike....economy improves a bit and AMA could be on it's way back to respectability.....I'm looking forward to riding down to NJMP this year to see the new Buell and KTM.

Its not the bike getting 7th, its chris. Put one of the top guys on it, I think it would do much better.
This is AMA guys, not world superbike, the 1200cc twins have a HUGE advantage over the inline 4's as they don't run restrictors.
It will be interesting to see the Buell as well.
One thing I'm confused about, the AMA didn't allow this new Buell to be homologated, so how can they race it?

I was at Mid-O on Saturday and it was nice to hear a twin racing in the superbike race. I was impressed with the KTM but just can't bring myself to appreciate the Buell.

It would be nice to see KTM become more mainstream in America. I remember going to the local dealer and ogling the RC8 in 2008. They are a Niche dealer, only got 1, and wanted MSRP+$$$ for it. Since then KTM pulled out of NA with the Super Duke (damn shame). IMO they are just 1 unique mainstream bike away.

I think its "kinda" homologated as in you can and have been able to buy EBR bikes directly from EBR since the Harley split. They are making 100 1190's.
The buell needs a lot more than a new frame material and 1190cc motor to be competitive.

...GW did a little piece on the new Buell before race 1 at MO....very trick little missle.....magnesium frame....came in 20lbs under min. weight so they had to add 20lbs.
I guess you could say the same about Buell, if they had Hayes on it would it be a better bike?....Not sure....although Fillmore is a pretty established racer in SM.....a track is a track....especially when I watch him blow by Polen on his SD....he talented for sure....
.......weight vs. power Tye!.....I know from speaking to the guys at FBF that the 848 has been over penalized and now that's become very evident on the track.....heaven forbid a Ducati beat a SuzYamKawHon......theres some bias there in DMG SB I fear.....

Filmore is a top rider in the AMA... and getting much better than 7th in it's first weekend running the mainstream series, where do you come up with this stuff???
Twins DON'T have a huge advantage over I-4's, the motors are cumbersome ,slower to rev and an outdated design... and I'd be willing to wager the KTM is down on power compared to the Graves bike, and Yosh/Jordan bikes. The KTM raced w/us last year in Colorado, Filmore is the truth, KTM is in great hands. Keep in mind Tye Filmore has most wins and is leading the "spec" series in the ama, against the likes of Rapp and Eslick.....
Your bashing of ama racing is tiresome dude... and your "facts" are horse-s*it

Did you notice that before the race when they were showing the bike it had a magnetti marelli instrument cluster in place of the stock one? That makes me wonder if it was really as stock as they were making it out to be.
Or maybe that was just for better data collection purposes.
