not really....MotoGP is a much harder class to run in over BSB. It does suck that Hopkins never could get over the hump in GP, but that hump is what separates the aliens from the rest.
IMO, it would be a shame if Hopkins could not make it back into GP (especially when he had a bad year at the office in 08 with Kawasaki, a terrible WSBK season and his AMA stint was so-so). If he ended up out of the top in BSB....he would be burned at the stake because and ex-GP rider should mop the floor of that series (look at WSBK and the ex GP guys running the show there). At least at ths point....most people will blame the underdeveloped Suzuki is what keeps him out of contention.
*** maybe Suzuki would put more into the effort if Hopkins came back (like in 2007) now that Capirossi is gone
