2012 AMA Ducati Superbike program?

While searching for the original spy photo pics for the 2012 Superbike I found this. Is this old news? Are they just getting their feet wet with the Daytona Sportbike 848 program this year?

I know, Italian media, but...

Google translation so it is not perfect.

Ducati torna a correre in America - Pista - Campionato Americano - AMA Superbike - Motosprint

The team will have the new Ferracci Superbike 1200
SALT LAKE CITY - The Ducati will return to race in an official in the AMA Superbike. In 2012 the brand new 1200 to entrust the Bologna Team glorious Ferracci that after launching riders like Troy Corser, Doug Polen (Ducati with both AMA) will be back in the top class American.

Leading the Ducati 1200 will be the promettentissimo PJ Jacobsen, 17 years old Montgomery, State of New York, currently in the sportbike category with the 748 prepared by Ferracci. In the fifth round of PJ Miller was in the lead until two laps to turn on and off in the final for the degradation of the front tire to Josh Herrin (Yamaha).

"We are already preparing "confirms Eraldo Ferracci" Ducati has already sent me all the technical details of the new 1200 and I think will have the potential right to aim high on the AMA Superbike series. I strongly believe in the potential of PJ Jacobsen, is a guy of enormous talent and great intelligence. Almost certainly will be our only driver. "

For some years Ferracci had an understanding of technical and commercial collaboration with the MV Agusta, which had also reflected the official participation in sports with the U.S. national championship with Luca Scassa. But the contract will expire in a few months and so Eraldo may return in all respects to be the bridgehead of the U.S. Ducati.

It looks to be new, but in this economy until I see the bikes rolling off the truck I meet stories like this with a lot of skepticism. Once I see the bikes rolling off the trucks I have only slight skepticism

They're gonna put PJ onto a new superbike in the big class next year?

BWAHHAHAHAHAHAH!

Talk about instant failure. Who is he going to race against? An aging Ben Bostrom on a hack-job, thrown-together street bike with slicks or maybe the Yosh boys running Bazzaz gear box based traction control.

AMA is a total joke, this just makes the joke even funnier!

I think it'd be better to give that shot to DiSalvo. It'd be awesome to see Ducati race superbikes in the US again...but yeah, its not fair to put that bike up against these bikes that are nearly stock. Having said that, they are still really fast and I think capable race bikes - just not compared to world superbikes. If Ducati still can't win a championship in the US with the current rules and their new bike...that'd just be sad.

Hard to believe he didn't get a ride this year....how do you win and not get a contract? I hope someone picks him up next year, this just doesn't make sense.

Well if you read the article, it was the same outfit that dropped Jake Holden on his ass. That's why hes now "Jake Holden Motorsports/racing" but last race, they ran a honda.?

I hope Fong gets a ride.
