I think some of Checa's slowness is in his head. He's convinced himself the bike isn't competitive at Monza. Even Berger's private 1098 went faster (although Checa admitted to using a single tire to understand how it wears over the course of the day... very grown up)
The factory 1098's sure did better than 14th in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Hell Bayliss did well in 2008, and we all remember the epic Spies vs Haga and Fabrizio races of 2009.
I'm curious to see how Superpole is gonna go down.

I hope Haslam can take BMW's first win. As long as they can make the tires last I think they can pull it off. Carlos should get faster, hopefully enough for two podiums.

Monza has a lot of high speed turns. That, combined with the BMW's tendency to eat tires later in the race (super high revving screamer, proprietary electronics) doesn't bode well for a BMW victory. My bet is on the BMWs shredding their tires 14 laps in to the race. I'd like to see Haslam up there with the leaders cause he definitely deserves to be there, but I don't think he has the bike to do it with.
Checa's only hope for finishing well this weekend is in preserving his tires (something we've seen him do very well this season).
I think Melandri is going to be the guy to watch this weekend.

Well, after Q2 it looks like there's 3 beemers, a kawi, and an ape in the top 5. All three are known top speed/HP machines, but the ape is the only one that can manage its tires till the end. Depending on the weather the BMW's might be able to use harder tires which would help them out a bit, but I ain't holding my breath.
I don't want to say it, but Biatchi has the potential to do really well this weekend. I've got my eye on him and Melandri....

Sounds about right but if I remember correctly BMW's first podium was at Monza? Bidouchi is gonna be hard to beat for sure. Yamaha lookin good to. Should be some good racing!

Matt, the 2008 times are nothing like what they are running now...with the rule changes, better tires, and more tech in the bike Ducati does not hold the supior advantage they used to for all tracks. Checa should cut his losses for Monzo and just score as high as he can.
