I got a PM from
logan5. Said the same thing happened to him and the reason was fraying wires on the pressure sensor/temp sender. It's located on the left side of the forks, accessible from behind.
Mine looks like it was screwed with. Some kind of boot stuck together with black RTV (silicone sealant) around the 4-prong plug. Friggin great. The wires don't look broken or worn. I clean the female plug spades best I can.
The bike is cold and I start her up. She runs fine. CEL is sporadically on/off...that's dumb, it should be lit up like a search light since a sensor is "bad". I don't ride her, just turn her off. Put the plug back on and make sure it clicks. Take it off and put it on again, just to make sure any surface corrosion is wiped away and metal-to-metal contact is made. Start her up again. Idles just fine, no CEL.
Take her for a ride to get her warmed up. Leave her parked in the driveway for 5 minutes then off on another ride. Rides like nothing was ever wrong. Park in a parking lot for a minute w/the engine off. Start her up and she's running fine. Take her for a couple higher rpm sprints followed by some low rpm cruising. Park her again w/the engine off for a minute. Start her up and ride home without issue!
WHAT...THE...FRICK?...!
Fuel light comes on so I fire her up and ride to the gas station, turn her off, and put in 1.5 gallons. Starts right up and I ride home, again, without issue.
So tomorrow I'm riding her to work. Let's see what happens. I think I'll still call the dealership and see if they can explain, even just check her out and hook up the diagnostic to see what the trouble codes were. I want to know what's happening...or happened.
I someone would please check their plug/sensor and see how it compares to mine I'd appreciate it. All the harness plugs under the seat are yellow, not blue like what shows here, so I'm wondering WTF happened w/mine.
I did check the alternator output at the three yellow wires per the workshop manual and they are 100% fine. Charging system is working just as good :think:

1. Put your head against your tank, turn the steering to full right, dual sensor is behind left of headlight;

4. Boot removed;
