Another proud new GT1000 owner
I have been lurking for awhile now, with some posts thrown in now and then, all while waiting for my new GT1000 Sport Classic. This is a great board, with a huge knowledge/experience base, so thank you all for that! I look forward to exchanging ideas/info as we get some miles on these bikes.
Better pics to come, this one is from tonight, I have had the bike less than 8 hours and it has less than 40 miles on it. I ordered it with the Termi kit, so of course it sounds great right out of the box (if even a little loud). I have ideas for a few mods, as money permits....

Wow...that setup looks familiar. What mods are you planning? I've got Rizoma barend mirrors, billett grips, and bar ends ordered up.

I love the Rizoma stuff, but it may be a little rich for my blood right now.... I have some nice bar ends that I got off a guy in th UK I found on eBaY, and I have a classic 60's badge that I want to install on the engine case or belt cover. Working on a garage door opener integrated to the high beam flasher, and we'll see where it goes from there. I like the idea of getting the wheels sealed for tubless use, but want to wait to get some miles on them in case there are any adjustments necessary first.
By the way, I like your signature "quack quack boom", wouldn't be reffering to the backfiring would it? I am going to try sealing up the pipes better to see if it helps. From what I gather when you shut down the throttle it sucks air in anywhere it can and ignites the unburned fuel. Right now I think it may be a little light show riding behind me at night....pop pop pop BAM pop pop BAM!

Termi question?
How much weight does one lose going to the Termi's and is there any HP/torque gain?

I'm not sure about the weight loss. They are a little lighter though, especially with the baffles out. I would be very very interested in that garage door opener setup. I'm going to go in for my 600 mile service on the 17th and have them check to see if the pipes are sealed OK. I don't get popping every time but it seems to be getting more prevalant. Thunder AND Lightning at night!!!

Long post, garage door opener install and pipe update
I tore down the pipes today, all the way to the heads, and sealed everything with a little high temp RTV. Everything was pretty well sealed up from the factory/dealer's install already, but I did clean up a couple of joints- those termis are not easy to line up for mounting! Got it back together and after a couple other little mods I just got back from a ride- still popping, I would say no difference from before. Next is emission canister removal to see how that affects it, and then ? See if the dealer can tune anything out at the first service. Great fun to ride though! Almost 60 miles on it now...
I got my garage door opener working that I mentioned earlier in this post. I purchased a spare opener off eBaY (my garage opener is OLD), and after a little snooping around and a trip to Radio Shack for a diode I was set- Tore apart the opener, down to just the bare circuit board. I even trimmed some of the unused board off. I taped the battery in place with electrical tape and then solderd on some black leads to the little momentary switch on the board. I secured the circuit board to the back of the headlight inside the headlight housing and ran the leads out the stock rubber grommet. These leads were terminated at the switch contacts of a a standard 12v automotive realay. To activate the relay I grounded on side of the relay coil terminal, and got the other tap from the high beam flasher switch, before a diode to the original high beam flash wire. I had to cut the lead free from the switch inside the handlebar switch housing and solder on a diode so that the garage door opener wouldn't be stuck on when the high beams were on, since the flasher switch is just tied into the same wire that activates the high beam when "switched" on. This all toook a litlle while to figure out, but with a little patience everything fit inside it's new home in the original housings. I used all black wires, and simply grounded the relay to one of the front gas tank mount bolts and zip tied the relay to the frame, hidden by the tank when installed. It works GREAT! Just pull up the geerage and flash the high beams. I know there are products for this purpose on the market, but I thought I could save some money ( saved about $10), plus I wanted a really stealth install.
Other work for today included intalling some bar end mirrors similar to the Sport 1000 mirrors, but round, and taking off stickers (pictures soon...). I put all the stock stickers stuck back on the seat bottom and lower part of the tank mount that is hidden by the seat. Interesting find of the day was a wadded up emissions sticker in the bottom of my air filter (saw it in the hole of the Ducati Performance airbox lid that came with the pipes. I was actually hoping it would solve the popping and I could tell everyone to check for garbage in their airbox lids!
Sorry for the long post. Later, Dietrich
