New Guy Checking in - Sport 1000 ?

Hello from California! I'm a new subscriber checking in.
Just came across your site and it looks great!
I just had my first Ducati test rides today after years of admiring from Honda's and Harleys. Rode the Gt1000 and and S2R.
I'm wondering if anyone can help me out. I am within a week of purchasing either an S2R or a Sport 1000. Like the comfort of the S2R but LOVE the look of the Sport.
Can anyone tell me how comfortable the Sport 1000 is? Is it that bad? Looking to ride usually 1-3 hrs mostly twisties but freeway to get to them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!!

The 'discomfort' of the Sport is due (mostly) to its non-adjustable, aggressive clip-ons. Ducati has addressed this problem but selling a replacement set which is adjustable (moves up and down on the folks) and can be much less aggressive for $97.00 - check with the dealer.

I owned a Monster and and now the Sport. The Sport is not only better looking it wears like a fine glove (particularly when a steering damper is installed). Nice bike on the highway and a dream in the twisties.

The Sport 1000 grows on you; I rode mine for about 4 months in the stock configuration. At first it was a little hard on the back and wrists, but quickly got used to it. Rides up to 3 hrs were fine.

It's only when I first went on an all-day ride in serious mountain twisties that I began to feel the pain in the wrists (mainly throttle wrist).

Wanting an all-day ride I installed the DP risers and seat. See this older post:
DP Bar Risers

Highly recommended. I can now ride all day without complaint.
(BTW, I also had to choose between the S2R1K and the Sport1K. I don't regret it now.)

I have ridden my Sport since January. The risers are high on my list of corrections to this bike. The other is to replace the smooth pegs. And to ride more. The bars are too far down in conjunction with my long legs - to tuck them against the tank behind the tank bulge, I am at a stressful angle for my hands. If it were cheaper to shorten my legs, I might go that route instead, but probably not, as I'd have to buy all new pants.

I haven't ridden the Sport model, but I own a PS 1000LE and the rider position on that one I guess you can say is even more "sporty".
The first couple of tours this spring gave me some problem with my wrists and neck, but from about the third trip these problems just disappeared.
I've done quite a few longer trips (250 mi +) with just fuel filling stops and there haven't been any problems. I really like the rider position because it gives you a very good feeling of what's happening in the front end of the bike, a thing I consider being of a major interest for me while riding
Riding on freeways I expect you to use 6'th gear and then you must up to at least 4000 rpm to make the engine spin. At that speed the wind will unload your wrists so there should not be a problem with that.

Then my wife has a S2R and when I ride it I get this smile on my face as well. But, from getting used to the rider position on the PS I wouldn't trade it for anything that I presently know of.
Try both bikes and keep in mind that if the Sport seems to have too low steering bars, you will very soon get used to it.
Good luck

Thanks for the input on the sport 1000. Luckily (still in disbelief) my ex-current bike sold Saturday to the first person who looked at it. That being said and with cash in hand all of your advice is greatly appreciated. I look forward to picking up my sport 1000 hopefully Tuesday night and will certainly either deal with or get used to the positioning. Rode the S2R on Friday, really liked it but cant get the sport out of my mind!

Thanks again!
