GT Fuel Tank Capacity
Well, I pulled a brainiac today and ran out of gas. By my estimates, I should have gotten quite a bit further, but when I pushed the bike to a gas station and filled it up to the brim, it measured 12.75 L (3.4 US Gal.). The spec'd capacity is 3.9 US Gal. I don't know about you guys, but to me that seems like quite a discrepancy (over 10%). I've never run bone dry before. Anyone have any ideas aside from me being a looser?

Did you try flipping the petcock over to reserve? Should find your other half gallon.....
Metric gallon discrepancy?

Umm, at the risk of sounding stupid (yet again), I don't think the GT has a petcock - at least not one that I could find either on the bike or in the manual. I thought that it only has the low fuel light as an indicator. Please correct me if I'm wrong - which I hope I am.
An Imperial gallon (no such thing as a Metric gallon) is ~4.54 L whereas a US gallon is ~3.78 L. Not that it matters 'cuz the spec. for the fuel capacity is given in L and in US gallons explicitly and the conversion is pretty close to correct - at least close enough that it's not the problem.
Thanks.

Sorry, I was joking about the petcock, it went the way of the carburators I believe.
Thanks for straigtening me out on the imperial gallons, I know it comes up when people are comparing fuel economy figures from different countries.
Wonder if anyone else has any ideas about the discrepancy? Are the gas tanks that much diferent between the sport and the GT? Maybe that's where the error came from, but you'ld think it would be larger for the GT anyway.

Oh, sorry. I missed that one 'cuz the '04 Bonneville I had did have a petcock still.
All fuel economy ratings in miles per gallon will be in US gallons. All of Europe (including the UK I believe) use litres per 100 km. I don't know of anyone that used imperial gallons in figuring fuel economy.
Not sure where the discrepancy comes from but I am curious.

Welcome to the world of Ducati fuel tanks. On my Multi even though the specs say 5 gal. I have not been able to get more than 3 in it. On this one, the light goes on and that silly km trip meter starts count down. After 30 km's of that it still only takes 3 gal.

Did it still have carburetors?

12.75 liters? That's it? Rather disappointing. This means that I can only go about 135 miles (225 km) between fill-ups. Does this sound right for a bike with the Termignoni kit?

I'm getting less than 200 km per tank with the Termi's. Maybe I need to loose some weight

I'm on a Sport 1000 with Termis and getting about 120km (75miles) to the tank (to the point where the fuel light starts coming on and off)! It's a real PITA because on any ride at all I'm usually filling up at least once. I do like to let the bike rev up to 5000rpm now and then though.
