DP Bar Risers

After experiencing a sore throttle wrist after a 300 mile day on my Sport 1000, I've been closely watching the forum for solutions. Several of you have gone to aftermarket risers or the ST-3 bar risers at high cost.

Well, it looks like Ducati is taking care of us: my dealer called informing me he received my "Handlebar Comfort Kit", P/N 96752506B yesterday. I'd had it on order for a few weeks. I installed it in a few hours this morning.

I also installed the Comfort Seat, P/N 96976606B.

While I haven't been on a ride longer than 15 miles yet, the riding position is just slightly more upright, relieving a lot of the weight on the wrists. Handling seems unaffected; it's just as lively as before.

I only increased the bar height 1 inch, and the bars are about 1 inch further back as well. The seat is surprising in that it doesn't look like it does much, but I can now flat-foot the bike, whereas before I was on the balls of my feet at stop lights. Additionally I am not now intimate with the back of the tank while riding.

Overall, the riding position is now beginning to approximate my '95 SS's. I think I could easily ride this bike all day now. The risers, when set low, do not in my opinion detract from the cafe racer look. I think if I raised them 3 inches then it would, but at 1 inch it's just slightly noticeable. Another benefit is that the instruments aren't in my face as before.

The best part: $94.38 for the risers!
(The seat wasn't as cheap at $189.40, but not too bad.)

See the attached pics.

Glad to know that the risers are finally available. Maybe now I can get rid of the ape hangers.

Put some miles on it and let us know how they feel. It's a good looking compromise, especially for <$100!!! (Did someone at corporate forget to carry a '1' or something?)

Installation?

Just a question or two on the risers. Did you install them yourself or have the dealer do it? If the dealer did it how much did they charge?
Did you have to installer longer brake or clutch cables to reach the higher bars?
I'm hoping to buy a Sport1000 in the next couple of months and would like to get it setup for commuting before I pick it up. The wife isn't thrilled about it as it is so if it needs modifying it better happen before the bike leaves the showroom.

Wink bunch of babies

come on guys, this is a cafe racer. Deal with the wrist pain, I have put 4500 miles on the bike in 4 months. Yes the pain seemed unbearable at some points, but do you really think that Arnold got to were he is with out a little sacrifice. Im 19,go to school, broke, but have my beloved Ducati, and my fore arms are bigger than by biceps. Get your balls back, Carpal tunnel is purely mental. Bar risers are for Montsters. They do have a bar risers club at Club Med.

I'll ignore DICK's reply and second robbmc's questions. I have put 1800 miles on my Sport and at two hours, I am squirming from the discomfort in my palms, butt and back. If the DP risers and seat can make a two hour ride comfortable, I'll pony up the cash, no problemo.

Okay, now that's funny. Thanks for the laugh!

Seriously though, I don't think the risers ruin the look of the bike in the least. Still looks great.

Maybe when you are not 19 anymore you will be more sympathetic with these older guys!

Whippersnapper....

Let's face it, riding and owning a bike like telling the world you're different. Driving on four wheels, like everyone else, is just too easy and boring. We're individuals and we choose are bikes as such. I think owning a Ducati makes you stand out even more and after we get our bikes it seems we want to fine tune them to our own tastes and needs so that in the end, hopefully, no one else will own a machine quite like ours.
Low bars, high bars, who cares. It's your bike, do what you want.
Check this out. I found this Sport on a monster board.

Yes, you´re right! I hope, you was not boring about my (a little bit with joking) answer. Maybe other riders mount chopper-handlebars on it - it`s THEIR fun and personality.
So far
greetings jens

to robbmc:

I installed them myself. Took about 2 hrs. No new cables were required, though I did cut the zip ties holding the cables to the frame near the front of the tank to gain some slack. After getting everything situated, I zip tied them back.

Only the front brake switch wires were a little snug. This limits how high you can adjust the bars without some re-routing of the wires/cables. Since I only wanted about an inch rise, it was OK.

No need to torture yourself to enjoy the cafe racer. One inch rise does not constitute ape hangers..... You'll ride better without wrist pain!

Ducati must be listening. Look at this link for pics of the '07 Sport; it comes with the risers: http://ducatisambreville.be/storenews.php

enjoy,
bill
