Anybody fit Monster spec wheels to a sport classic
There are lots of options out there for Monster spec wheels. Anybody try fitting them to a Sport CLassic and can share their experience? Anybody know what--if any--modifications are necessary?
thanks and best regards, John

the appeal of the sport classics is their nod to the retro aesthetic, ie spoked wheels. why use a obviously modern element on a retro styled machine?
everyone has their own personal criteria of what is "ok" on their machine. i for one crossed over and used some very modern parts myself, but i felt they were subtle enough and drew the line at carbon fiber and cast wheels.
motocorse pictures a LE with some of their cast wheels, and while it looks ok, it sort takes away from the intended classic flavor. goto their website and take a look to see if this is something you like. it may help with your decision.
just my 2 cents. you should keep you nice spoked wheels on your sport classic, but ultimately to each their own and do what you want with your machine. its still at heart a ducati.

I think more the reason for his asking might be to get the spoked wheels that they sell for Monster's so as to be able to avoid using a tube with tire and get some more modern compound tires for riding regularly....but I am just assuming....but here's an example of the type of wheels on a Monster for which I am refferring for comparison.

and BTW...this is a member's bike here that is currently for sale...member name "raffyk" and it is listed under the classifieds section if there is any interest!

That plus enough clearance for some real calipers. Those Alpina Raggi wheels sure do look delicious...in silver of course. I wouldn't dream of putting carbon/cast/forged wheels on my Smart. Even the Dymag carbon spoked wheels are a blasphemy in my humble opinion.
I am ready to take the plunge on the Alpinas, but don't especially want to be the pioneer on this one. If anyone out there was the first to try it, please let us know how it went...
best regards, John

Just been reading this.
With regard to the Brake calipers; my Imola has the same wheels as the Sport Classics and if you look closely you will see the 4 pots are present and correct, just painted black! Believe it or not we machined off material from the inner side of the caliper in order to give the spokes clearance. The Brembo calipers have so much meat on them that you can take at least 10mm off before you are through to the piston. We destructive tested one before applying this practice for real!!!

Go to Phil's site, PAKBIKES.NET
He has the Alpinas with gold hubs. Basically, mount them and go.
I'd be intertested in hearing from anyone that has fitted Monster wheels to a sportclassic as I have a set of '02 Monster cast wheels that I've been thinking about using as my bad weather wheels (much easier to clean than the spoked wheels) and I would love to know what sized spacer, etc, are required to make them fit.

As for the spacers. I think there might a few extra for sale over the next few weeks. As we are thinking about making a few extra for people that want them.

Any specifics and/or parts that you can provide would be most appreciated. Picking up a set of discs is not a big deal at all. I ride rain or shine and I'd love to be able to run some "mags" when it's rainy. Please put my name on the list for spacers if you make some. Just let me know when they are ready and how to order them.
