Monster S2R1000 to a Sport 1000 Biposto

Are any of you guys former Monster owners? If so, do you have any regrets switching to a Sport Classic?
Here's the deal...I recently purchased a '07 Monster S2R1000 and I've gotta 'bout 400 miles on her. After I purchased the Monster the Sport Classic really got my attention and I...I...well...I think I'm in love! Yeah, I got the Sport Classic bug! Yeah, I know...I know...I thought I was in love with the Monster. Maybe it's just a crush. Well, I just got back from the dealer from inquiring about trading in the Monster for the Sport Classic. They let me take their '07 Sport 1000 Biposto for a spin and the Sport Classic seems a lot different than the Monster. Keep in mind that I have never owned a street bike before and I have a whopping 400 miles under my belt of riding a street bike so it's hard for me to reference any other bikes. The differences between the two bikes:

1. The back end of the Sport Classic seemed more stable than the Monster. The Monster back end seems to want to jump around a lot and the Sport Classic seemed to hold onto the road better.

2. The transmission on the Sport Classic seems a lot smoother. The Monster seems to make a lot of noise when shifting - mostly downshifting. It kinda makes a klunking noise.

3. The Sport Classic doesn't seem so temperamental when starting from a stop. The Monster chugs, kicks, and bucks when starting from a stop if the RPM’s aren’t above 3K.

4. I feel more confident laying the bike down when going around a turn.

5. The Sport Classic seems more sure-footed while the Monster seems a little squirrely.

6. The Termi’s on the Sport Classic…$%^& it sounds so damn good!

Do my opinions sound accurate when comparing the two bikes?

Thanks for your help!

1) The monster S2R1000 has a better suspension than the SC: Fully adjustable Showa forks. Also, the wheels are much lighter on the monster which will make the bike handle better than the SC. Both leave room for improvement but the monster wins on suspension.

2) As far as I know, they both have the same trannies other than the SC biposto having a wet clutch, this observation may very well be in your head...

3) They both have the same engine...

4) The SC has a bit more of an aggressive riding position which will make you feel more comfortable in a turn. This may have something to do with it, but the monster has a better suspension so don't think too hard on this one.

5) Again, the monster has a better suspension. You may just need more experience on the road to really feel the difference.

6) you're damned right they do! Although I must say that you can achieve the same effect on the monster, it is the same engine after all.

Seriously, my opinion is that the monster is a better bike from suspension perspective. However, the SC's are just so damn good looking that I can't help but love them. Sure, you'll pay more and spend a lot more to modify it to obtain its true potential, but that's half the fun. In my mind this decision isn't that hard, both the SC and monster are basically the same bike but the SC has a bunch of parts that are cheaper (wheels are heavy and require tubes, brakes are lame at best, suspension blows). However, if you tune either one to it's max potential at which point they'd both be equal, the cooler bike is the SC.

Although, the single sided swingarm on those S2R1000's is sweeeeet.

Get whatever bike gives you a woody and don't think too hard about it.

That's what it's all about.

Motorbike, The thing about adjustable suspension is that it can be adjusted really badly. Your observations about the suspension on the Monster may be completely accurate, but then it would suggest that you very much need to get that suspension correctly setup for yourself so that you can know exactly what you are really comparing before you make your final decision.

Go to ebay.

Buy a sport classic tank and tail section. (they seem to come up fairly regularly)

Shoehorn them to your s2r. (not sure how but i bet it could be done)

Best of both worlds! Itd be a great project and youd have a unique bike with better suspension, wheels and brakes than a standard classic.

AND itd probly work out cheaper!

Do it. And impress us all!

Or you could get both
Though its the 800 monster I've been slowly transforming it into something akin to a cafe style until I just bought the SC1000S, I'm now wondering whether to keep the clip ons or go back to upright bars to keep a difference between them. (unlikely )

Re: 3. The Termis probably are why the SC is so much smoother. Stock, I bet it feels just the same. Starting from a stop on my stock SC is pretty shuddery.

Also, you've only got 400 miles on the Mostro, it's not broken in yet, while the demo bike you took out has probably been thrashed in a bit more. I know the demo bike I took out with 390 miles on it was a lot smoother running/riding than mine that I bought with 0 miles even after 750 miles on it... I've probably been easier on it than demo riders and haven't broken in the fork and other things as much yet.

Compared to the biposto, the S2R1k has much better suspension at both ends, and significantly better brakes. And wheels that don't require tubes in the tires, and that don't have chrome spokes that will rust.

Objectively, the ony things the SC has to offer over the monster are styling and an aggressive riding position. The second is easily added to your Monster.

I looked at both bikes when I bought my SC (2006 monoposto). Not exactly the same comparison because the 2006 has better rear suspension, but it is otherwise pretty much the same decision you are making.

The things that turned me off about the monster were mostly cosmetic - especially, the plasticky mirrors and gauges. The mirrors are easily replaced, and almost always are.

So, even if you didn't lose anything on the trade, you would still be (many) thousands of dollars away from getting the bioposto to function as well as your monster.
