06 voltage regulator updated?

My regulator under my seat can get really hot sometimes. The colored wires coming from the unit are starting to turn brownish, I guess its from the heat? Are the regulators in the first production run defective? I never had and heating issues with my 09. If I get the most current regulator from the dealer, will I still experience over heating problems? The local dealer told me that this part has gone through 4 revisions / part numbers.
Thanks

You need to replace it immediately before it melts through the tray. The OEM units are not the best (even the latest ones). You should get a MOSFET R/R. Do a search in the forum, tons of threads on swapping in a MOSFET.

Cheers,

Thanks Thurston, I need to replace it soon, I smell something burning/melting while at a traffic light sometimes. I want something plug n play, I don't want to cut and splice any wires.

Get in touch with JCpak bikes, they have a P+P unit that plugs right in, runs cooler overall.
