Backhome: I brought up the price with the seller and he seemed pretty stuck on his asking price. I'm assuming this is based on what he paid OTD from the dealership and the lack of miles on the bike. I'm not thrilled about picking up a salvaged bike (don't know many people that have bought one), but if everything checks out it could be worth the risk. I will probably take it by a local shop that I trust and get the rundown on the bike before or immediately after purchase.
Greggers: Hit the nail on the head. I would have never known to look for that type of modification and I will be sure to check that out when I see the bike. I'm assuming the calipers have been machined seeing the bike came from a dealership but I will never put anything past a dealership. Are 4p's a significant upgrade outside of the fitment?
Bly: Thats the word on the street. I'm interested to see if the 999 wheels on this bike drastically improve the suspension. It'd be tough as I've never ridden a stock SC but I ride a decent amount of track on my other bikes and know the feel of a good suspension.

Any thoughts on the exhaust he has on this bike? I looked through the SC threads and found 1 other bike with this exhaust setup.
See what they look/sound like in person and make a decision from there.

No prob, I am in the midst of gathering parts to do this conversion so I've become well versed in the ins and outs you should be able to see evidence of machining on the mount points without removing the calipers, definitive evidence would be to pull one of the calipers off. If it hasn't been machined you'll see wear marks along the inside where the rotor has been scraping. If thats the case, whether you could just get it machined and then be fine or need to replace I couldn't say.
4p calipers are a definite upgrade in terms of stopping power, there are the gold 4p/2p ones that can be bought new or find takeoffs from Monsters and some other bikes, or the 4p/4p ones from 749/999 models. There's all kinds of debate about which is better, unless you are raving I would guess either is great. I'm going with the 4p/2p just because I got a pair for a good price that were already machined

Ducati NA told me they don't honor warranties on salvaged bikes. The gas tank settlement is something done through a court so it may not be considered a warranty but may be a beaatch trying to get them to honor it.
The price seems fair but not a bargain. Does the bike press your buttons? If so, jump on it. If not, it would be money ill spent. The top triple is from a Sport, it doesn't have holes for risers. I dig those folding turn indicators.

Here's a Google search that will yield a lot of info about the 999 wheel conversion ins and outs, if you'd like to read up:

What people don't understand is that just because it's titled as salvaged does NOT mean it's a bad bike (or car or truck or jet ski or...), it just means that fixing it would cost more than it's worth, THAT'S ALL! It does not always mean the vehicle was launched off a 156' cliff, with engine screaming at full throttle, into the ocean where it sat for 8 days and then was hauled up, thrown in a shop, and rebuilt.

I just got back from Afghanistan and I've been itching to get a Ducati and have finally settled on an SC. Problem is they are hard to come by in TX. I've owned 3 bikes but have never owned a Ducati. Found below is a link to a bike I'm very interested in. I spoke with a couple friends I trust that own Duc's as well as PM'ing a couple forum members that frequently post in the SC threads. The verdict was 50/50 go/no go.
Ducati 2008 Sport Classic GT1000, mint
Bottom line, would you or wouldn't you. I value the opinions of members that have not only owned SC's, but have seen different varieties and know what mods work together and what bikes to stay away from.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Looks good but the 1st thing I would do is ditch those pipes...they'll do nothin but rob you of lots of power .......
Otherwise it looks like an excellent buy and like Rossi states....who cares about the title ? Just ride it ! My SC started out as a biposto salvage bike !
By the way I'm sure I speak for all when I say :
THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE !!!!

Price of low miles GT, used in 2005: $6500,
price of wheels and brake mods: ~$2000.
Done with analysis. Go buy it. Personally I love the unmolested look. Go buy some YSS shocks and get some fork cartridges and you are done.

although this is correct, it is still blemished. I mean, a blister is a blister. I remember when I was at uni, I met this girl out on the town and she was smokin hot. But after one of my mates told me she was "well known" I just couldnt do it. I had no proof she was a slut, and she didnt seem like one to me, but her reputation ruined it for me...
