Mileage / Range Sport 1000
I did do a search but didn't find an answer.
Folks have said that the "actual" capacity of the GT tank was more like 13 liters, INCLUDING the reserve. Can anyone say what it is for the Sport 1000?
Equally important, and I know it is based on your driving habits which determines the mileage per gallon you are getting, but what is the effective range of a tank before needing to refuel?
I'm asking because I already hit my first "issue" with the new bike. I picked it up from the dealer yesterday with only 8 miles on the odometer. The low fuel light was on, and I said to myself, "yeah, typical cheap bastard dealer only put in a half gallon or something". So I ride to the gas station, fill it up, and it only took .85 gallons! Low fuel warning light is still on. So back to the dealer.
They had just removed the tank to redo the internal fuel line and clamps, which I described in another post. He's guessing that in doing so, he probably restricted the travel of the float, so I'm just getting a false reading. He said it was really a pain to remove the tank, and asked if I could wait until the 600 mile service at which time they'll of course fix it. It didn't seem like it was hurting anything, so I figured it would be better to enjoy the bike, rather than have it in the shop another day.
So I'm with a brand new bike (only 29 miles), and I'm completely blind as to the fuel capacity and range for the bike. So input from you Sport 1000 owners would be MUCH appreciated.
Thanks!

Congratulations on your new bike!
You will get more than 8 miles to a tank of gas! I have been going about 100 miles between fill-ups on my PS (two-into-two Termis and lower front sprocket). The tank is not empty but I reach my physical limit at about 100 miles. My style of riding on the PS is moderately aggressive. I usually keep the RPM's up. When I fill up I do not fill past the neck of the filler as per Ducati instructions.
One interesting note, I was running Premium gas and getting about 28 to 30 miles to the gallon. Someone suggested running Regular for better performance/milage. It didn't sound right to me but I tried it. My mileage as increased to 38 to 40 mpg. The engine does not knock! Performance seems about the same. (On my next fill up I am going to try Mid-grade to see what happens.)

Be safe and fill up at about 100 miles like Geo does. After you do that a couple of times you'll have a better idea of what kind of range you will have.
My light stays on pretty constantly at about 115-120 when it will take ~3 gallons, so I could do 150 easy... but don't! Not a fan of walking when I don't want to.
BTW, I've got the 2-into-2 Termis and get around 38mpg. Usually just riding, not banging off the rev-limiter or anything.

I have a PS with Termi 2:1 and a 41T rear sprocket. When I'm just cruising along I keep the RPMs at around 4000 to 4500. I ride a lot of twisty two-lane roads, very little in-town traffic time. My fuel light tends to come on between 93 and 110 miles and it will take about 2.7 to 3.3 gallons to fill it. The longest that I've gone between fill-ups is 120 miles. I have yet to run the tank dry.

Slowerthan, is your LED also flashing "low fuel" and counting up the miles? Just curious, because that would be annoying.
If I remember correctly, the GT and Sports have the same sized tank so you've got a wealth of numbers here to rely on. And I definitely remember someone with a Sport posting a total mileage figure after running his tank dry.
My light seems to flash on somewhere between 120 and 150 miles and I'm slowly increasing the number of miles I ride while on reserve, just to experiment. I've gone at least 160 miles on a tank and could still only add 3 gallons when I finally stopped to fill up. Also, my lowest mileage has come on tankfuls where I found myself in more stop and go traffic situations, so if you're doing city commuting you might want to adjust your figures downward a bit.
If you're getting your tank completely full, 100 miles is very safe and 120 should still be well within your capabilities. Since you're only talking about another 4 or 5 trips to the gas station before getting it fixed, I'd play it safe.
Enjoy the new toy, it's gorgeous!

Yes, the LED keeps flashing "low fuel", and yes, it is very annoying!
For the time being, I will refill every 100 miles or so.
On a similar note, I thought I read in the Owner's manual to use minimum 95 octane gasoline. I found that to be funny since the maximum octane I can get is 91.

LOW FUEL, ahh I hate that, that thing makes me parinoid I get about 130-150 miles on the freeway on a full tank. By the way dont try to ride with one hand and talk on your cell phone to tell your boss that your going to be late on the 91 E freeway in CA and then accendently shut your bike off with the kill switch, this is a bad idea, I saw a guy on a black sport classic

?? This is not the first time I've seen a reference to the counting up function on the trip meter (and that would be LCD, btw, not LED) and yet, mine has never done this. Is it something that can be disabled? The last time I saw it mentioned, I paid close attention to my dash when the low fuel light came on, and even toggled the display to see if it would show up, but nothing. What's up with that?

I'm reviving an old thread, in the hopes that I'll get a few questions answered.
Bought my '09 last Thursday... so far, my light has come on anywhere from 110 to 140 miles. When it comes on, the LCD flashes "FUEL" and begins to count up. I'm guessing this is to keep track of how many miles you've gone since the bike "told" you to start looking for a gas station.
I keep hearing about reserve, but can find no fuel switch on the bike. ??? Does the bike automatically go to reserve (this is what the counter is), or am I completely missing where the switch/valve is?
