Another New Boy!
Hi everyone,
Well I'm a very happy chappy right now as I've just taken delivery of this (please excuse the poor picture - it was taken on my phone)
It's a 2009 1000S, totally stock apart from the Termignonis. It's got just 2,600 miles on it and appears to have never seen rain. Belts were changed last year and it has just had another dealer service. So all I need to do is.... ride it!
That'll have to wait a month or two though - partly because the weather is still pretty miserable here in the UK, but more because I'm still recovering from the accident which destroyed my last bike - a gorgeous white Hypermotard.
I was riding home from work (on a route I've ridden every day for over 10 years), when I came round a bend at about 50mph to find an ambulance coming towards me on my side of the road, overtaking another vehicle. I didn't fancy a head-on collision at those speeds so went for the brakes. The front locked as I was still partly leant over and down I went. Thankfully I didn't hit the ambulance or the car it was overtaking, but I still hit the tarmac hard and bounced a fair old way.
I won't go into details of all the injuries - I'll just say that I'm almost ready to get back on a bike!
I'm loving reading the forum - there's some incredible bikes on here.
Ian.

Am I detecting another UK owner?
(the large numberplate and general grayness of the weather tells me so )

Welcome.
Since your had a Hyper you're well aware these things are money pits but in the most rewarding way. No matter what it will always love you back...
I went down in similar fashion a couple of years ago, not fun, so have a good recovery.
I hope you kept your wrecked hyper as you could probably salvage brakes among other things...
And if the engine is still good, perhaps you could try a transplant? I've always wondered whether one could fit a hyper DS1100 on an SC. Should be able to...
But perhaps I'm getting over excited at the idea and you insurance claimed it.
Anyway, welcome.
(As a first order of business and since you have wet roads, I would change these tires pronto...)

Cheers matey. Family and friends all think I'm mad for getting another bike - but once that bug has bitten...
Just seen some pics of your bike on the other thread - love it. Lots of very subtle, but well considered upgrades. Food for thought indeed!

I'd be up for that (once I'm off the crutches!)
Nice work on the 'shed, matey. Really liking it.

Haha, I like your thinking! Sadly the insurance company had paid out before I'd even left the hospital. The Hypermotard went backwards into the verge and bent the whole back of the bike up at 90 degrees. Add in the rest of the cosmetic damage and I can see why it was written off. A shame as there were some nice bits and pieces on it - but I was in no fit state to deal with the insurance company, so it was left to my poor wife (who already had plenty on her plate!)
Tyres are most definitely top of the "to do" list - the current ones feel like they're made of wood!
Ian.
