Where did YOU buy your Sport 1000?

I've been trying to find a Sport 1000, preferably black. Not the 1000S; I love them naked!

Every time I find one, it's either just been sold or pending sale, and now I can't seem to find any more. But maybe I'm just not looking in the right places for these elusive beauties.

So tell me, where did YOU buy your Sport 1000? New at the dealership? Craigslist? Some back-alley deal from which you miraculously escaped with not only your life, but a new bike? Tell your (hopefully not THAT) harrowing tale of SportClassic acquisition!

I just bought a black 2008 Biposto in November on Ebay, from a Harley dealer in FL (I'm in CA). Took me about 6 months (and even more time before that where I was casually looking not thinking I could actually get one) of regular searching Ebay, CL (allofcraigs.com to hit the whole country) and Cycle Trader, as well as the classifieds here. It's definitely not easy to find one, especially at a good price, and likely you will have to buy elsewhere and ship. Also it's probably getting towards a harder time to buy, as the idea of Spring starts to get on people's minds they may be less likely to sell. But then again there seems to be a large contingent of older guys who bought them new because they loved the classic look, but then never ride them because the position is a bit more aggressive than they can handle, so they will sell to get a bike that suits them more (pretty sure that's where mine came from, it looked like it had been sitting for a while and then got traded in).

Good luck!

Six months??
I hope it doesn't take me that long... It'll be worth it if it does, but eesh! I was hoping to ride this bike while my other bike is laid up this spring getting a new suspension and other stuff.

The good thing is, I'm willing to fly (or fly a friend, if I'm not back in the States yet) anywhere in the country to pick one up...

If you don't mind, how much did you end up getting the bike for, before shipping?

It's all luck of the draw and timing, so keep at it and hopefully it'll take you less time. After all that time, and a couple missed opportunities, I just happened to see the ad for my bike come up on Ebay within an hour of being posted. $6600 buy it now price, just under 2800 miles on the clock. They were a Harley dealer and they didn't even know really what it was, had it listed as a GT 1000 (the pics and a quick VIN lookup told me otherwise)...6 months of patience paid off I suppose.

Wow, that's a lucky find!

The two I just missed sold for $7500 and $7000. Both black, nearly flawless condition, exactly what I was searching for.

There's another one in CA that I'm looking at, but my first instinct is that even with the mods he's done, it's overpriced. Custom Black 2006 Ducati Sport 1000 Cafe Racer - Immaculate!

There is a guy on another forum who said he's probably selling his this spring, so he said he'd email me in a couple of months and see if I'm still interested... So even if I can't find anything soon, I might still have that to fall back on...

Almost identical to my story. I found my 1000SE at a Harley dealership in New Jersey about a year and a half ago. The salesman told me the same thing about some old guy who can't ride it due to the extreme ergonomic and traded it in for a Harley instead. Got mine for $8k with 408 miles on the clock.

And as greggers said earlier, a lot the folks at the none Duc dealership don't really know what SCs are so they just get rid of them as fast as they get them.

I found my black Sport 1000 on the Ducati.ms classifieds, but that took months of 'just missing out' on the perfect bike, not once or twice but about six times. When I finally found it, it was in GA, it had to be trucked to Los Angeles and then shipped to New Zealand. It was worth the wait!
My advice, don't rush it, they do come along but you have to be vigilant. Keep looking in all the places you have been. What about placing a wanted ad locally. That might be all that's needed to convince one of those older owners to finally sell the bike gathering dust in the garage that he never rides.

Nice to know that they are out there... However long it takes me to find one, I know this bike is worth it - and all of you are just helping to confirm that!

Good idea on the local want ad, I went ahead and placed one... I think I have most of the internet forums, as well as Craigslist covered now!

Just remembered I used to search oodle marketplace for ads.

It's been a while since I've looked there so I paid a visit just now - one sportclassic - but I searche 'ducati 1000' and found...

a yellow '06 $16,999

2006 Ducati Sport Classic Sport 1000, Houston TX - 101717184 - Cycletrader.com

a red '07 1000S with lower fairings $7,800

Motorcycles for sale by owner | 2007 Ducati 1000S For Sale

a black '08 GT1000 for $2,900 - but wait, there's more, it's not a GT, the pictures show that it's a Sport 1000, and black!!! Sounds too good to be true but maybe it's another one of those Harley dealerships.

2008 Ducati GT1000 Classic Sport US 2,900

I'm hoping it's still there for you!!
