New Duc Owner

Hello All,
I have been watching and learning for awhile. After months of looking, I purchased a mint 07 GT1000 with 1700 miles a few months ago already set up for touring (bags, sheild, rack, bars). It had some tasty bits....CRG levers, carbon belt covers, sargeant seat, bar end mirrors already. Previous owner farkled and didn't use it much. I just did the mosfet rectifier upgrade as preventitive maintenance (did this on my Triumph too), oil change, air filter, and basically got it sorted (steering stops, put some washers under the tank mounts (yep it is spread a bit, but solid now), cleaned the connection to the starter.....that was badly corroded under that boot, adjusted throttle, bled brakes, cleaned/adjusted everything, etc. Been riding over 26 years, some trackdays, MOTOGP, WSB, AMA fan! Been to Laguna, Daytona, Indy, and a few others. I have a 09 Triumph Daytona 675 that is modded pretty heavily. Both are unique incredible bikes and I like working on them myself. Got a 14 tooth CS sprocket to put on. It has original belts......do you all think I should change them now?

I know what you mean about the GT1000 being a keeper......all round awesome bike with a timeless character. Now, I can feel accepted on Ducati Island! Lets hope Rossi and Hayden have a better year with the 1000cc bike and new frame.

Nice when someone else spends some dollars on mods for you. I'm 6foot 1 and if you find the screen height a bit annoying like I did, take 5 inches off and all will be perfect. I don't think it is such an issue for shorter guys. Some pipes would be next on the list of mods.

Nice bikes and nice posters. Yes, I would do the belts regardless of miles because it's been 5 years.

Thanks for the replies fellas. The belt replacement is going to cost around 320 at the shop here in Louisville...(Commonwealth). About 1/2 parts, 1/2 labor.......I don't trust myself doing the belts on my own just yet. Might as well get'er done during the off season. Got to get the fuel pump clamps checked too.
Forgot to mention I put some NGK iridium plugs in her with no noticable difference. Yep, it has original tires/tubes that ought to be replaced, but I am going to run them down going to work and back first. Its nice to be back with a group of enthusiasts. Grazie!

Nice; looks like my red 2010, except for the windshield. Is that a Ducati screen? I've been thinking of adding one; currently looking at the Givi line as I read mixed reviews on about every screen tried on the .ms web site.

Cool that you did the RR; mine fried a month ago with 1500 miles on it and I also replaced it with the FH012AA, mounted in the wheel well below the seat pan. I also had Ducati Seattle install heated grips (Symtec I believe) when I bought the bike. Previously used them on BMW's and have been hooked ever since.

I am curious why jcasella recommended replacing the belts at 1700 miles. I'm guessing it's like tires where anything rubber should be replaced at around 4 years max...

What luggage are you using? I broke down and bought the Hepco Becker set a couple weeks ago and am very happy with it so far.

Enjoy the bike. I've probably had 25 motorcycles since I was 15 yo (now 62) and this is fast becoming one of my favorites...
