Gt1000 scrambler?
Has anyone tried anything like this? It's a germ of an idea, and I'm just curious as to what type of effort it would take. I'm thinking of something that really just has the look of an old-school scrambler with the performance of a Gt, but that could do occasional light off-road duty.

It's an awesome idea, but it don't think you'll be able to find any 17" knobby tires. I think the closest thing to an off road or dualsport tire you'll find are Pirelli Scorpions, and they aren't really an off road tire at all.

Correction, Continental just released their outstanding TKC80's in a 180/55R17 rear and 120/70R17 front! Also a little less aggressive is the Dunlop D616, which also comes in the above mentioned sizes.

I saw these at a show in Calif a couple of years ago. I do a lot if dual sport riding and thought they were both pretty appealing.

Man, it does seem like a cool idea, and one that might not be too tricky. At a minimum, knobbies (or aggressively treaded tires, like the D616s), a skidplate, high pipes, and better suspension. Remove some bits here and there for weight/a minimalist look. Maybe add some hand guards. Trickiest part would be the new suspenders and exhaust. Other stuff, like different handlebars, would be a matter of taste, really.
Hmmm.....
