Title transfer for out of state buy
I'm trying to find out the best way to do a title transfer for a bike I'm buying in another state. I've researched online escrow and shipping services, and I think I've got that covered. A quick search for title transfer services online shows the service can cost $200, which, with shipping and escrow services, quickly raises the cost. Anyone have any experience or recommendations for title transfers like this? I searched the forum, but didn't see any posts on it.

It may vary from state to state. Call you local Department of motor vehicles.

I think it may depend on your State laws. I am in Texas and it is easy here. You just have to have the signed clear title, fill out a form at the tax assessors' office and pay them 6.25% tax on the purchase amount. Done!

Yea, you'll have to check with your Motor Vehicles Dept. and you should do that before shelling out any $$! I've done it easily here in Oregon, you only need the correct and valid Title, signed off, then bring it in with the vehicle to the appropriate DMV venue. They inspect the vehicle to compare the VIN, you provide proof of insurance, pay for an Oregon Title and Registration, and you're off! (No "escrow" or outside services needed.)

Check with your DMV. In CT, you just take them the old title, they inspect the bike to verify VIN. You pay the sales tax and reg fees, then you're good to go, similar to what Riderjeff described for Oregon.
