1098 Front Fender on SC ... Does it Fit?
Hey guys,
I noticed a few SCs have the 1098 front fender, however it's not listed on any of the direct fit lists I've seen.
I like the smooth front and rear curves of this fender, similar to stock and the nice guard. I prefer it over the busy Y frame of the monster fenders, or the squared off rear of the 748.
Is this a direct bolt up to the stock forks with the plastic hangers ... or how much work needs to be done to make this work?
Thanks,
Guy

it will fit. direct swap. but you need different fender collars (ones from monster)
or you can just use some nuts to lock it in place

interesting
I'll have to find out when I take possesion of my 1098s. The carbon front fender would look bad ass!

I'm still undecided, but I'm trying to decide on a simple smooth fender which blends in with the Sport Classic, eliminates the ugly silver fender hanger and adds a bit of protection. I like the DP diversion and stock s4r fenders, however there lines are both sharper than stock and lack protection. The 748 is nice but too square in the back. This 1098 is interesting, I need to see it in person.

When I upgraded to Ohlins forks, my stock front fender with aluminium mounts would not line up with the mounts on the forks. I would have had to splay them wider to get them over the mounts.. so I bought an 848 carbon fender which bolted on perfectly... my results tend to contradict that a 1098/848 fender would be a direct swap....

look closely
the reason why your stock fender didn't fit is because your Ohlin's are radial mount fork bottoms. Stock forks are not radial mount, So the 1098 fender might still work.

I like the 848 fender in your pictures. The legs are a bit thicker than I prefer, but I guess that lends more protection. The top is smooth and simple.
I'm probably just going to need to try something and see how it looks. I have a basic black SC with 999 rims and brakes. Trying to avoid anything that looks tacky.

I wasn't so sure about the 848 fender at first... but if I paint it the same as the tank and leave the centre stripe bare carbon, I think it will look fine.
I don't know how to explain exactly, but no, the stock aluminium mount wont fit the ohlins dimensions. I dont think it is because of the radial mount. It's because the mounting tabs are in a different position to the plastic tabs on the stock forks.
I'll try to upload a photo...
Also, the 848 guard protects the fork legs from stone chips etc...

I think mikedsilva might be on to something. I was thinking about the issue with the wheels and brakes from the 999 on the sport classic, how they need to by modified 5mm per side, or have rotors with 5mm less offset... then I remembered that the triple clamps on the Superbikes have a 10mm wider centre.
I think I could get the fender to bolt up to the fender mounts on the sport classic, possibly requiring a longer screw and a few washers per side to take up the 5mm ... but I wonder if the upper fork tubes would be excessively close or rub the fender.
Has anyone put a 1098 fender on a bike without Superbike forks?
Maybe I'm stuck with the 748 or Monster Fenders :/
