Do all Duc's crank slow?
I just got my Sport1000 and I was wondering about the starter speed. The engine fires up so I'm not that worried about it not starting. I was just wondering if the starter normally cranks slow, or is it due to the cold weather? I watched some youtube videos and most of them are of warm weather and none of them state if it's from a cold start.
I have made sure that the battery was fully charged, since the battery tender was in "green" mode when I went to the garage. I am not exactly sure about the age of the battery either. I am just used to my 09 CBR which cranks relatively fast so I was just wondering if this was normal for Sport classics or Duc's in general?

All of my Ducati's (I've had five) have seemed to have asthmatic starters, but they all started nevertheless.

My Multistrada does.
And I have read a number of others here noticing the same thing about their Ducs.
Maybe a combination of the high compression and a weakish battery.
but what do i know?

My GT has always had a slow-ish starter, but it starts pretty reliably. It's gotten better with age in this respect.
Before spring I'll get around to installing the Hi-Cap Battery/Starter cables I've purchased from Motolectric. They are advertised as curing the slow-crank issue, but at least one forum member said they didn't make any difference on his bike...

My 1098S is a slow starter, and cold-natured...even with a brand new battery. Compression? I don't know.

I installed the kit as well, and it definitely made a difference in the number of cranks needed to get started. It has been consistent over the past year now.
whether this is really worth anything is a good question. guess lower wear and tear on the starter?
I am also using the Shorai fwiw.
take care.

I've wondered if the superbikes use a better starter, either lighter or more efficient. My 848 starter sounds like a turbine compared to the "ka-chunkita, ka-chunkita" of my PSLE starter stumbling to life.

Just go make a coffee while you wait and smile knowing you have a Duc
