New Handle Bar
I have a 2009 Gt with the touring package. I already removed the rack and faring and am thinking about installing a lower handle bar. Maybe 1" rise or so. My question is about the locating pins, keep them and drill the new bar or remove them?
Here is a shot of the current handle bar-

I like the chrome fenders. My experience is to keep the pins and drill the bars. Might be an incentive to find a different stock Ducati bar to use. Others may disagree.
Some manufacturers provide the bars pre-drilled. Suburban Machinery comes to mind.

I run Rizoma bars with no pins.
14,000 miles and no problems, I like the ability to adjust the angle of the levers for more comfort.

There was a discussion about the pins and drilling holes etc. General consensus was that the pins were not necessary as long as the clamps were secured well. The pins are most likely a safety measure by the manufacturer; many people have used handle bar controls using only the clamps (no locating pins) without issue. The decision is yours.

I think it is more likely that the pins are more of an aid to the techs building the bike...will surely speed up installation time and ensure consistency/correctness between bikes. I think that with the amount of people that run non stock bars without replacing the pins...they're proven as superficial to those of us that are only working on ONE of these things, haha.
