oil change
Just about to change the oil on my sport 1000s could anyone please tell me what is the best tool to use and what size socket fits the filter.I have measured it at 72 mm is this correct. Also any tips to avoid disaster. Why does it feel so much more delicate than my jap bikes?

Filter tool I have is made by Imperial, part # IF-768. yea, it's in the 72-74 mm range. Got it from Pro Italia. It's pretty cheap. Filter has 8 flats. Most spin on filters have 7,14 or 15. I'm a Euro car tech and have a drawer full of adapters none of which fit the Duc filter. I did the first one with a strap wrench but it was difficult to get the filter confidently tight. Noth'in beats the right tool!
Change the oil with a warm engine. Pull the screen as well as the filter and drain plug, use new sealing washers and a torque wrench. Fill the filter before installing. Do not overfill the engine.

Once you get the crappy stock filter off replace it with one of these stainless units. I have one on both my bikes with a 3rd sittin waiting to be installed on the next project

That is about the best and most concise answer I have ever seen to a question. You should be writing service manuals for a living.

10mm works fine on mine.
Not to sure about the intervals for oil screen... but I think it is well beyond 2000. Check out the link below:

I just changed my oil. It is definitely a 10mm. I had to make sure the Allen key was all the way in the hole to get good bite on it. Almost like the hole is tapered. 7700 miles on my GT and I have not touched the screen.

This looks to be really interesting alternative, anyone else with positive experiences? Would love to hear more feedbacks before giving it a try.
