Is it just me?
I love my bike, and it is now equipped as I think it should have come from the factory. My bike now finally has proper suspension, upgraded brakes, tubeless spoked wheels, and I am satisfied with the modest power upgrades I have done. I have put as much into the bike as makes sense for me, and I hope to enjoy it for many years to come. It is definitely a "keeper", and it always turns heads and gathers a crowd wherever I take it.
But I just started looking at how much I have spent on it, from buying it new, until now. I gather I am into it for over $18,000 now, and I sometimes think I am out of my mind to do what I have done to it. Of course it has been a mad adventure, spending both for performance and bling. But I am really enjoying the bike now, even though it remains a bit of a torture rack to ride, even with the risers.
Anyway, I am wondering, is it just me, or have others here spent as much as I have on their Sport Classic?

I wish I could have bought the stock bike for $18k.....they were $20k here.
I'm in it for over $29k at the moment. That'll go up once the alloy tanks arrive.

I think you have done well! Got mine for $7600, box stock with 300 miles, 2 years ago. Put in about $2500 for Termis + a lot of the relatively inexpensive stuff. If I can get it the way I'd like for another $8-10K over the next few years .... Well that's what I expect. Hopefully sooner than that.......not getting any younger!

I spent about $20k on top of bike purchase price. I owned 2 SC's at the same time for a while and parted out one of them for about $10k. I'm probably still behind $25k and have a nearly stock GT in the garage.
That's why my advice to the guy with $4k to spend was to buy an SV and enjoy the SC for what it is... Fun to wrench on but one of the worst money pits I've had the pleasure to own.

"I learned that to replace a fettled and blinged Sport1000 you can get a used Streetfighter S for the same money.
I still miss mine though." - Bly, 2011
I have the Sport 1000 because it looks and feels right. No other bike does it for me or I'd have that bike. After a point I stop counting money spent modding a vehicle because it doesn't make economic sense. Money is to be enjoyed.

And therefor has to be spent…
I did not count the costs of my modifications…

Dude, biking is about passion, not economics or wise investments... My bike has cost at least 50% more than I originally paid for it, with plenty more I can and will do in the coming years...
But consider the feel-good factor of owning something unique that combines engineering with beauty, the thrill of speed, plus a big helping of community and camaraderie, and I think you'll find your money has been well spent.

The sad/exhilarating part is , it's never going to end loll
We all love our bikes that's why they deserve to be pampered.

They say it's best not to add up the receipts.
Not sure how much I'm into my GT for. I'm the second owner and the first owner did a lot of stuff - termis, Rizoma bling, etc. I added Showa forks, Works Performance shocks, Alpina wheels. Just bought the comfort seat from another local GT owner who went with the Sargent rework on his stock seat (looks pretty cool).
Don't think of it as a "money pit", think of it as a "blank canvas"
