Quick release battery connectors?

As some of you know, I have fitted a small Lithium Ion battery to my SC1000, and although it works perfectly in most conditions, it doesn't like the cold too much, and loses cranking amps around freezing, so I've decided to bring the battery indoors when I know I'm gonna leave the bike standing for a few days and the temp will get down to less than 5 degrees Celsius.

The bike is currently wired into the OEM cables, which are also badly shaped for the new position of my battery in the seat pan/undertray, so I need two things...

Some new cable, that will take starting amps, and some easy-to-use connectors that will allow me to quickly unplug the battery without getting a wrench out.

I've tried to take advice from auto electricians, who advise playing safe with 160amp cable and plugs, but I don't want to play too safe and end up with cabling and connectors that are too heavy.

What do I actually need to do the job, that isn't designed for a truck(!) and tat I can source in the UK? ...Does anyone know what maximum loads (in amps) that the battery discharges when the starter motor is turning over?

Thanks.

Dutch

Some battary suppliers use "Anderson Connectors". My company also uses these same connectors for -48volt telecom DC power connectors. They are different sizes depending on load. Look for their multipole connectors. They have distibutors in the uk. It is best to have the professionally crimped. Just do a google search and you will find the company.

For the quick release connectors, this is a suggestion and NOT a recommendation:

I used to fly high power electric model aeroplanes that draw 200 - 300 amps at full throttle. We use a gold bullet connector.. the larger the connector, the higher the current flowing capacity.
Here is a link:

And hopefully, I'll try to attach a picture with size and characteristics...

You need to bear in mind, that usually full power in these sorts of models, is only for a few seconds at a time, which I guess is like starting your bike... 3 seconds and you're done! Let me know how you go.. if it works for you, I might try it myself!

Ballistic Batteries make extended battery cables and quick release cables just for your purpose. I'm at work so can't look it up.

I wish these things were as easy to find in the UK. ...I'd order from the US, but postage plus potential import tax makes it a waste of money for such a small component.

LD - Demon-tweeks stock the Anderson Connectors, plenty of other useful components there too.

Cheers for the link Hoppy. The Andersons seem to be the way to go.

I have a choice of 175amp or 50 amp. Does anyone know if I can get away with 50? I'd like to keep it small and neat if possible.

[edit] Colm at RB has just recommended I go for 175amp
