$4000 to spend.
Hello all.
I have a cream/black '07 Sport Classic GT 1000. I love my bike and you guys sound like the experts.
My bike was recently vandalized and is currently in the shop. Ive been saving money for the last year and figured while im having repairs completed now is the best time to start revamping my bike.
That said, if you had $4000 to invest in a pretty-much stock GT, what would be the top 5 mods you would suggest. My thoughts are a a sargent seat, termi pipes, and not sure after that. Also, to make the best of my money, any suggestions on after market parts would be appreciated. Im a fan of the sleak retro look.
thanks, Ronnie

Doesn't Zard make a neato looking megaphone style exhaust for your bike?

A post in the Sport Classic section would probably get better results.
But if you ask me, spend 1/2 of your budget on a metal tank and the rest is good for bling

Touring seat (if you can find one), Staintunes ($), Fat-Duc (only if you got the staintunes or similar), 14t front sprocket, full adjust rear shocks, fork springs & oil change, bling to your hearts content, an adventurist spirit, free time, $ for gas/food/tires, vacation at ECM 2012.
Ta-Da! One happy rider! Guarenteed!

sorry about the vandalizing.. and how could anyone vandalize a black/cream GT or a ducati for that matter is beyond me.
so 4000.. 5 mods.. hmmm... termi's will run you about 1400.. you can check out pjsparts.com for some classy Rizoma bits (bars, mirrors, grips, etc) then you could focus on the suspension. rear needs it and front too. i'd also try and find a comfort seat (huge comfort improvement).
you won't need a fatduc if you install Termi's. wheels are an option but they would take a good portion of the budget unless you find some lighter PS/sport1000 wheels off ebay. GT wheels are way heavy.. but if your keen on keeping that retro look you probably wanna keep the spokes.
i'd just start searching around. various website to get an idea. JCpakbikes.com, desmoworks.com, customsportclassics.com, pure-ducati.com, you'll pick up some ideas pretty quickly.. and its ok if it comes to a little over 4bills.. tis the holiday season.. treat her well...

First thing I would do is replace the stock wheels with something lighter (which would be anything, really). I put a set of 5-spoke Marchesinis on mine, and it made a world of difference in the handling of the bike. Also makes it possible to plug a punctured tire until you can replace it, which has come in handy for me a couple of times, unfortunately. Should also help acceleration, although I don't recall a noticeable difference at the time.
Then exahust, then hard bags, since you asked.

BST carbon wheels and a set of Diablo Rosso Corsa's
My good friend did that to his sport and he said it's the best mod he has ever done. The bike corners better, flicks in and out of corners better. And in general is just a better bike. Just my $.02

awwww crap. I am sorry about the vandalism, Ronnie.
Maybe start here:
Are you happy with the bike's suspension?
Are you happy with the bike's power delivery?
Are you happy with the bike's brakes?
Are you happy with the bike's comfort?
If you answer "no" to any of those, start there.
If you are happy with all if them, then PJ's Parts will give you a LOT of motorcycle jewelry to choose from. Rizoma makes very high quality parts that look awesome.
You mentioned a new seat, so maybe think about what you are truing to improve on relative to your current seat.
You also mentioned a new exhaust. What is it about a new exhaust that appeals to you: more power, the sound, the appearance?
It's your bike, make it satisfy YOU!

Ride your bike first for awhile and you'll probably come to your own conclusions as to what are the most important mods - to you. I do agree with velocipede, all riders, fast or slow, will notice a marked improvement in handling and benefit from easy flat repair with lighter, tubeless wheels. Definitely the #1 mod. IMO
