Bay Area Tank Coating

Got my replacement tank approved and, once I leave my GT1000 at the dealer as hostage, I can take the tank to get it coated. But who and where? Any recommendations within 50 miles of San Mateo? Thanks

Hattar in San Rafael either sends it out or does it themselves, or so I've heard.

Yes to both posts above.

Hattar in San Rafael will send the tank out to someone they have used for years to coat tanks. It is NOT Caswell, but a 3M two-part coating system, supposedly using two coats. They offer a life time guarantee on the coating, whatever that means. I do not mean to be disrespectful, and in fact, I had Hattar do my tank for me, and it is holding up well so far. It is just a little weird because they are always a little vague about exactly what was done.

Ace in Concord will send your tank, supposedly to the same person that JC uses, to coat the tank. I do not know how much they charge for the service, meaning for the coating, plus shipping/handling. But you do get the Caswell system.

I would have sent it to JC myself, but at the time, the shipping cost was pretty hard to justify. Perhaps with Ace, it makes a little more sense. I still feel better about the Caswell, even though my tank has not failed. But then again, we are now seeing some failures with the Caswell too.

Ace does send tanks to us
That is to say we get them but i do not know if they send all the tanks down to us or not.

As for the Caswell failing
One was from a Tank that turned out to MOT coated at all. We do not know how this hapened as each tank that come in and goes out is inspected, perhaps the dealer never sent it in or it got taken back before we did anything. We never found out why, nevertheless We coated this customers new tank for free.
the other reported failure we heard is from the pressure from the new mounting spacers and rails that spread the tank apart cause the tank to buckle.
We are continually improving the tank coating method. we have gone above and beyond the standard Prep and installation procedure that Caswell recommends. We have a new device that evenly etches that tank so the caswell will stick 5 time better then etching by hand.
We have a LED Bore-scope to check the inside and a few other techniques that ensures tat the tank is properly coated
If a Tank that we coated fails we will do another coating for free.
