SC died on me; a little help for diagnostic?
I have had my 2007 S1000 for three years without a single problem.
A little over 10,000 miles on the clock now.
this morning I had a hard time getting it to start, but it did, after 2 minutes of insisting.
I was riding along for less than 5 mn when the engine just died while riding along at 45mph. I tried to restart to no avail.
I have a new-ish Shorei battery. It cranks like a MoFo, so no problem there.
I seems to have gas coming through, as it ends up smelling like gas out of the mufflers.
I am guessing that I have no spark, no ignition.
Opinions? Action to take if I want to replace something and save on labor costs?

Throwing parts at something is never a good solution. I helped a friend replace the fuel pump on his Supra 3 times before I made him buy a service manual. 20 min later we had diagnosed the problem: the distributor
Step 1: don't assume battery and voltage regulator are working
Step 2: check them
Step 3: verify that you have no spark, and check all plugs
Let us know what you find

I'm going with Voltage regulator... had all the same symptoms when mine quit.
I put an 1198 Voltage regulator in, works great!

Thank man, I hope it's something like that.
I checked all fuses and the regulator's fuse as well. All is green on that end. No frayed wires either.

Are you sure it's not the faulty fuel line? When my regulator failed the bike acted very weird. The only time it simply died without much of a quip was the fuel line...
good luck!

Fuel seems to be getting into the cylinders because I can smell unburned gas being vented out of the pipes. I seem to be missing a spark then.
I will pull a plug tomorrow and run the starter while grounding the plug and check for sparks...

If you are gonna check for spark...use a spare plug and leave the plugs in ...atomized fuel can be ignited when blown out the plug hole..
